Hi all, just a follow-up on a post I made here about 3 weeks regarding a MRI I had attempted and bailed/panic buttoned on.
Well, without issue, I ended up doing the MRI in the open type machine this past Easter morning to try to find out why I've been experiencing bad headaches for the last 2-3 weeks. I get into work the next morning(Monday) and my Dr calls me with the results and tells me to go to the emergency room. "I say, when?" He says, "now!"
Turns out I have a partial tear in my right neck artery...better known as Right Carotid Artery Dissection. I asked the radiologist how I got the tear but she really couldn't tell me. Me, I think I got in during one of my many violent coughing fits which was one of the reasons for the MRI in the first place.
I am now on a 6-wk daily Aspirin regimen before I have to go back for a follow-up MRI in the hopes it has healed itself.
I am feeling a lot better 6 days later today.
Anyone else experience this and/or know anyone who has?
I turned 56 today
So, solidly middle-aged...with many more to come!
A 75 year old friend woke up on Tuesday morn with his face and pillow bloody. He went to a clinic and it turns out he had a ruptured eardrum. Says it will heal itself???
Prayers up for one of the handful of FReepers in Mexifornia. Keep us posted!
Its take care of Kevin time.
Rest up well.
Sorry about the artery deal. That, of course, is scary.
Me, I am experiencing broken ribs, torn rib cartilage and muscles == from violent coughing.
Results of which have been that I was unable to lie down for 8 days and nights and have slept at my table or else on my knees beside my bed == the result of which has been massive edema in my lower legs, the result of which has been a virulent infection in my lower left leg where the edema had wept.
So, Kevin in CA, I am praying for your artery to be utterly and completely healed. And I am asking you and other FReepers to pray for me, that this infection will be dissipated. I have been at this for over a month.
I spent time underway on a navy submarine. Went for a mri on my right shoulder, never even thought about claustrophobic issues. Managed to make it through it. Then had the be rolled out on the left shoulder for a few minutes then went back in and did it. Wish we had a more open one where Im at. God bless and good luck.
Get well, bud. Now and then we need a little reminder of our own mortality just to spice things up a little. Prayers up.
Good thing you got the MRI and found out the problem. Prayers for a speedy recovery.
The MRI was rather relaxing. I fell asleep. Just like you can fall asleep a heavy metal concert if youre tuckered out enough. I dont have claustrophobic tendencies though.
You need a Chik-fil-A.
Go to the one on 1st street ....STAT
I never thought it would bother me, the mri, I mean. After being in the boats and scuba diving and all. Next time its no sleep and Led Zeppelin. Oh and chick-fi-la.
Praying.
Oh, that’s scary; I cough a lot, from asthma, copd (even though I quit smoking 30+ years ago, the coughing persists) and a bad pneumonia I had once. Nobody ever warned me about this. Just as well since I guess there isn’t much they can do about it but keep prescribing inhalers, which aren’t all that great. OTOH, colds and the flu can make my coughing go through the roof, so I try to avoid those as much as I can. Stay away from people with colds or the flu as much as possible. Wash your hands a lot. Don’t touch your face, etc. All the things your doctor told you. Hang in there! Glad to hear you’re doing okay!
I am glad you had the MRI and it was caught in time. Best wishes.
I’m glad you got the mri done. You might buy a new pillow too, seeing how it’s in your neck. I’m in my 60’s and finally found a pillow after years that doesn’t give me a stiff neck or cause other problems. It’s called “firm in the middle” and I think it is made by Serta. Some of those hi-tech pillows I’ve used before outgas chemicals. The one I’m talking about has no smell.
Thank JESUS your on the road to recovery.
I just ate some delicious prime rib but suddenly, I’m hungry again...
After telling you not to worry, and that I fell asleep, it’s good to know what the issue is. Peace of mind is worth tons. Heal rapidly and be well. This to shall pass.
