God who gave us life gave us liberty. Can the liberties of a nation be secure when we have removed a conviction that these liberties are the gift of God? Nothing is more certainly written in the book of fate than that these people are to be free. Establish a law for educating the common people. I certainly am not embarrassed by his comments. To the contrary, I am inspired by them.
I don’t subscribe to all this political correctness, that because he owned slaves, because he didn’t have a 21st century liberal politically correct conscience, that he should be disregarded. Based on liberal criteria, to that effect, then we can admire no one from history, because he/she would have had something in their life and times, which liberals today find objectionable.
Why no James Madison Memorial?

Because James Madison is known for the US Constitution, whose limited government is not fashionable in DC. The Jefferson Memorial was built by FDR as a monument to the founder of the Democrat party.
Probably more than anyone else, Thomas Jefferson was the intellectual force behind the founding of America as a liberal democracy. Compared to his contemporaries as well as all those who came before, he was a tremendous champion of freedom.
He wasn’t the founder of the Democratic Party. That was Andrew Jackson. Jefferson’s party was the Democratic Republicans.
