(shameless vanity) Top 3 Songs ever recorded?
http://freerepublic.com | 04/01/2018 | heterosupremacist

I had an interesting conversation with friends, and was inspired to ask my Friends for their comments...

I first chose an American classic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzPLQpLAxc4 ~ Nat King Cole ~ Stardust!

I then chose the Irish Philharmonic Orchestra ~ Irish Philharmonic Orchestra ~ Holy God We praise Thy Name(3:36)

Finally, I decided on a blues classic:

(1975 Dublin) Thin Lizzy (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=261uidoVOVk

Love Stagger Lee. My 3 eclectic picks:

The Beach Boys “Oh Darlin”
Diana Ross “The Boss”
Deep Purple “Highway Star,” the best live rock song ever recorded.

but there are issues of the heart attached to "Galveston"

When you put it that way, it would explain my choice.

And yes they are close.

Arthur Godfrey, “Back in Nagasaki”

I like Nat and Frank's version:

Nagasaki--Nat Shilkret & the Victor Orchestra; vocal by Frank Crumit (1928)
--note the reference to the 1923 Tokyo earthquake ("the earth shakes...")

I’m throwing in “At Last” by Etta James. Talk about soulful, winsome, hopeful, relieved.

Glenn did my favorite version of that tune:

At Last--Glenn Miller (1941)
Here's my favorite opus by Etta:
Good Rockin' Daddy--Etta James (1955)

I'd place Wichita Lineman ahead of Galveston.

I do, too. I didn't like Galveston when it was popular because it's an anti-Vietnam War song, and I still don't. But being a football fan, I like Wichita Lineman, a football song.

I went to high school with Terry Stafford

He got a lot of airplay over Los Angeles rock stations.

Forgot to mention “Skateaway” earlier. That’s a beaut as well.

By the way, “Desperados Under the Eaves” by Warren Zevon, which I mentioned, has awesome ending harmonies by Carl Wilson, and features what may be the best stanza Warren ever wrote:

If California slides into the ocean
Like the mystics and statistics say it will
I predict this motel will be standing
until I pay my bill
