Russia's Tragic Abortion Tale
Live Action ^ | 2014 | Becky Yeh

In 1920, under Bolshevik rule, Russia was the first country to legalize abortion up to birth without restrictions. The method by Lenin’s political faction was a way to destroy the family unit and to free women into the workforce. The Bolsheviks even designed the machine for suction abortions that is still used widely in abortion clinics across America. Joseph Stalin outlawed the practice in 1936, and it remained illegal in the country until after his death in 1953.

Until recently, Russian women reportedly had seven abortions over their lifetime. In 2003, BBC reported there were 13 abortions for every 10 live births; Reuters reported in 2009 that there were 73 abortions per 100 births in Russia.

In 2010, a United Nations report showed that the abortion rate in Russia was 37.4 abortions per 1000 women aged 15-44 years, the highest of any country represented in data collected by the UN.

“What floored me is that most moms brought their brought their kids [to abortion clinics],” said Rachel Flores, a California native and founder of Redeemed Lives International. She has traveled to parts of Russia and Europe sharing the message of hope and healing after abortion.

“These girls looked anywhere between 10 to 13 years of age. We saw the girls–there was numbness, but there were few that were just broken. I was floored that people just came and went.”

Most Russian women, Flores says, are ashamed to discuss abortion. Even pastors and leaders refuse to address the issue because their own wives have experienced abortion.

“I felt like I was really excavating hard ground, really hard ground,” Flores said.

Amidst concerns over the country’s low birthrate and high abortion rate, Russian lawmakers even suggested banning abortion completely. In 2013, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law that banned abortion advertising.

“In the modern world, the decision is up to the woman herself, any attempt to suppress it would only push the practice underground, causing immense damage to women’s health."

“Historical abortion statistics, Russia from 1923-2015”
http://www.johnstonsarchive.net/policy/abortion/ab-russia.html

Here are a few sample years (these stats only account for official data)

1965:

births: 1,990,520
abortions: 5,463,300

1988:

births: 2,348,494
abortions: 4,608,953

2000:

births: 1,297,176
abortions: 2,114,700

2007: the first year where live births outnumbered abortions

births: 1,610,122
abortions: 1,479,010

2015:

births: 1,940,579
abortions: 848,180

This trend has held pretty steady since then, but in 2017 (last year) the birth rate overall hit a ten year low:

Putin may be a fake Christian and a statist, but as a statist and thus a strategic thinker, he realizes the destruction and chaos that post-modern sexual ideology has caused in Russian society.

“Russian Senator Blames Abortion for Society’s Rising Level of Aggression”

“In fact, both the woman who decides to have an abortion and the loved ones who support her then experience a lifelong sense of guilt, and it’s precisely this feeling that leads to the growth of aggression in society,” Mizulina explained

I haven’t been to China, but I am told the same applies there too, just manifested in different ways...So much trauma.

And even in the U.S. I believe a lot of the most militant feminists are wrestling with the pain and guilt of abortion...

In China, no one talks publicly (ie. in media) of the consequences of abortion. The authorities have not approved it. While China has officially removed its one-child only policy, I believe from the cynical, strategic-thinker point-of-view, China is not facing the demographic bomb and population implosion that Russia is. China of course is still under firm Communist control and Xi Jinping has recently made many moves to push it back somewhat towards “traditional” leftism and state power of Mao. Ironically, that also means tightened sexual morality and less portrayal of “corrupt western sexual values” in their media.

The average Chinese still believes their country is “too crowded” and in the absolute power of state planning of society and control of individuals. Abortion is widely available. It also is not a Christian society

There are many contradictions about abortion, family and sexual morality in China and I can’t say I have an overriding theory which explains them all.

All interesting points. I also hear that millions of Chinese women were forced to have IUD birth control devices inserted after the birth of their first child, but that just last year the govt offered to oversee the removal of them for millions of women... Because now there's a "two child" policy...(?)

Communist control and Xi Jinping has recently made many moves to push it back somewhat towards “traditional” leftism and state power of Mao. Ironically, that also means tightened sexual morality and less portrayal of “corrupt western sexual values” in their media.

And herein lies the conundrum Russia finds itself when it touts "Orthodox" values while ALSO maintaining Soviet nostalgia and attitudes...It's because the value systems can often merge. They say there was no sex or drugs or crazy corrupt Western notions corrupting the Soviet Union...but as we see with the abortion statistics...the numbers speak differently...And it is in fact the Soviet value system continuing to corrode at the West.

Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood, spent extensive time in Soviet Russia...and was greatly inspired.

The Bolsheviks were so great. I can’t believe that anyone in Europe organized reactionary movements to fight them.

Phew! Good thing American women don’t murder their own children in the womb.

That 60 million abortions since 1973 is probably just propaganda.

The latest omnibus bill allocated $500 million to Planned Parenthood, a known major abortion provider that also sells the body parts for profit. And this while legitimate national security issues go unaddressed and unfunded, such as repairing our very vulnerable electric grid.

Glass houses and all that...

Fatima: "Russia will spread its errors throughout the world..."

What an incredible prediction in July 1917, months before the Bolsheviks had even taken over.

That has nothing whatsoever to do with what women do here.

Totally irrelevant.

Do you think my position is that living in Russia is utopia? Far from it.

But your ‘holire-than-thou’ attitude has no basis in reality.

In 2013, Flores and a team from the United States spearheaded a number of pro-life events in St. Petersburg, Russia to educate women on the importance of sexual purity.

In 1978, I was in college and had a part time job collating answers for a NIH-funded research questionnaire where old people in nursing homes were asked questions about sex. I had to read all of the answers in order to do my job. The people being asked were teenagers around 1900.

They were asked when they had their first sexual experience. The Catholics for the most part said they waited until they got married. Most of the non-Catholics first engaged in sexual activity by the age of 13. The Catholic Church always taught the importance of "saving yourself."

In the final report that very important finding was not even mentioned.

My point is that teaching sexual purity and waiting until marriage has long-lasting benefits for the whole family.

I don’t understand the animal rights activists who feel abortion should be on demand for humans.

For years I have been saying that banning abortion is key if industrialized nations don’t want to be overrun by third world immigrants.

The Bolsheviks were a European idea to begin with, not a Russian one. Half the original Bolsheviks and Communists hated Russians and were as intent on getting rid of Slavs as Hitler was.

The revived old British goal of Balkanizing Russia being foiled when Yeltsin yielded control to Putin is the root cause of the whole "Russia, Russia, Russia" meme. Hillary pumped it up as her excuse for losing the election because she wouldn't be in power and able to deliver what she promised to the people who have since '91 been determined to break Russia into multiple, warring, States.

Her being able to get the media behind it and making it the standard government meme is the only reason why she's still breathing.

Unfortunately, at the moment it seems like Trump is being led down the yellow brick road to the same destination just without Tin Man, Lion, and Scarecrow getting the payoffs they were promised along the way.
