The ‘Roseanne’ Reboot Is Funny. I’m Not Going to Keep Watching.
The New York Times ^ | March 29, 2018 | Roxane Gay

Posted on 03/31/2018 3:31:53 AM PDT by Trump20162020

This fictional family, and the show’s very real creator, are further normalizing Trump and his warped, harmful political ideologies. There are times when we can consume problematic pop culture, but this is not one of those times. I saw the first two episodes of the “Roseanne” reboot, but that’s all I am going to watch. It’s a small line to draw, but it’s a start.

But the people who didn't vote for Trump are absolutely unhinged!

Yep. They didn't just not support Trump. They absolutely ridiculed the very idea of him running and anyone who was dumb enough to think he could actually win. They've been forced to eat crow since Election Day.

The second Becky is going to have her baby. Mark is in the military overseas. The real mark died in real life so I believe the story will have him die in combat at some point.

She’s the reason for the show. She got everyone together.

The author here is famous for writing a memoir about her heftiness>>>Of course she is wacked out feminist too>>>>

Gay’s memoir, Hunger, was released in June 2017.[33] It is about Gay’s experience with weight, body image, and building a positive relationship with food. In an interview with Elite Daily, Gay described this book as a testimony of “what it’s like to live in a world that tried to discipline unruly bodies.”[34] The memoir has been widely acclaimed and praised by critics as “remarkable...ferociously honest,”[35] “arresting and candid,”[36] and “intimate and vulnerable.”[37]

“....because I find Ms. Barr noxious, transphobic, racist and small-minded.”

Small minded is never considering someone may have opinions different from you.

Small minded is using hate speech “noxious, transphobic, rascist..” to describe anyone not in lockstep with your opinion.

So draw your little line, and keep your mind close to different opinions, you will never discover if it is you that are out of step and not the rest of the world.

Remain a small minded bigot.

Ms. Gay sounds like David Hogg calling for a boycott. Time to piss off a liberal and watch (at least once) this show.

We are given little information as to how she became part of the Conner family and what life for her is like in a small, predominantly white Illinois town where everyone, seemingly, voted for Donald Trump.

Because most families, and people in general, don’t obsess over color differences and just go about treating each other as people, rather than bingo spots to check off and ‘win in life.

Perhaps it’s libertarian. But it’s not conservative.

A very significant block of Trump voters are not conservative. President Trump himself is not conservative, not socially anyways.

We forget here on FR that the MAGA coalition includes a great many blue-collar voters who, if they have opinions at all on social issues, didn't have the luxury of involving themselves one way or the other in the culture wars because they were more concerned with keeping their heads above water.

It's hard to care about abortion or gay marriage when you've maxed out five credit cards paying for prescription drugs and you're not sure where the next mortgage payment is coming from because the drywall job you took at age 60 after you were "retired" isn't quite making ends meet.

This is the "Roseanne Class" as it is now being called. They voted for GWB to bring "dignity" back to the White House but he ignored their plight so then they voted for Obama. Hillary called them deplorable and cobbled together a Democratic coalition that didn't include white working-class voters like the Conner family but Trump said he'd make their lives better and earned their votes. They don't post on FR and they stayed home in Alabama last November but they're out there. Millions of them.

Most importantly, when the liberals call to boycott Roseanne advertisers (and they will because this tactic never seems to fail) we need to let the advertisers know that we support their business decision to advertise on the show.

We need to do this whether we watch Roseanne or not. And it can be as little as posting "thanks" on their Twitter and Facebook pages, emailing or even calling. They need to hear from us because, as I pointed out elsewhere, they'll hear from the Left and the Left is unhinged right now.

I never got the impression back when that show started it represented middle-class families coming from one. Roseanne once stated in the show they were “decent, white-trash”, and there was absolutely nothing redeeming about it.

She did make some true statements recently, I think it was, that working class, families’ kids are the ones who die in wars, and I did like how she went up against a celebrity bullying Barron Trump.

But trust that woman or watch that show? Nope.

That is interesting. I wonder how much influence she’ll have on the trajectory of the show in terms of its storyline and themes and outcomes. Hopefully Roseanne has strong veto power and the will to keep the show somewhat on the rails. Going to be interesting to watch this one play out.

It’s a TV show for crying out loud.

The snowflake who wrote this is attempting to define the reality of fictional characters.
