I'm feeling like hearing some interesting music that I've never heard before, so I thought I'd start a thread on FReeper's favorite underrated bands. Post several good examples of their music and why you feel they're underrated. Should be fun.
I always liked “Hyperactive,” it has a little ska edge to it.
Thomas Dolby - “Hyperactive”
Thomas Dolby - The Key To Her Ferrari

That’s the ticket :)
Nobody else around me likes it. Don’t care. Crank it in my office!
Glenn Miller and his Orchestra - “String Of Pearls” (HQ)
Stan Kenton - “Malaguena”
Tommy Dorsey - “Opus One” (stereo)
Jimmy Dorsey - “Hollywood Canteen”
Benny Goodman - “Sing, Sing, Sing”
Artie Shaw - “Nightmare”
Yeah, I know, but that one lousy file is the only one that anyone has ever uploaded to YouTube.
Here is a link to the full album in digital quality, which is a wonderful sonic experience.
Automatic Man (1976) - Full Album
It's the only place I can point to, where you can hear the track, Right Back Down, in full clarity.
Little side note .. I still own an unopened vinyl copy of this album that I picked up in London in 1989.
I like it. Need to ponder that sound, would love to get a really high definition copy on a good system with some separation. Apple speakers are pretty good but when it comes to atmospherics and subtleties in the bass line you only get a hint of what’s actually there. Thank you for introducing me to this, I’ll study it.
Coheed and Cambria.
A song from their last album. I had to play it every day for months after my dad died. Claudio Sanchez is a musical genius with an amazing voice. Ive seen these guys 3x so far.
I dont know them much but I know one male fan who named his daughter secretly after exene and no one knows. Ha Ha.
Agree about gentle giant.
Stepping Out by Joe Jackson I was sure it was about gay men finally coming out into their own. Santa Monica Blvd was chock full of young handsome guys 24/7. It was before aids. Im still not convinced it isnt.
I love Wild Horses. I think it is my favorite stones song. That and Can You Hear Me Knocking.
My son is a music major and he was just playing the traveling Wilburys the other day.
I spent a lotta time at the Roxy when I was too young to be at the roxy...
