Close, but it was actually called Sohio. They were a major funder in the Alaskan Pipeline. Once it went online, they had their own supply of oil independent of the Middle East. Therefore, their price of oil on the market was substantially less than their competitors. They made a lot of money, then their own senator Howard Metzenbaum stabbed them in the back and felt that was unfair competition - ie benefitting from their risky and aggressive strategy. He proposed legislation that forced them to raise their prices to market value. The change put them in a financial bind and made them ripe for a takeover by BP. The brand then disappeared. Metzenbaum was a lowlife on many levels but that was the worst.
