No, Amazon is NOT opening their own stores. What they may be wanting to do is essentially turn the former Toys "R" Us stores with the best locations into a writ large version of the Amazon Locker storefront, so Amazon customers can pick up their bought items in a secure location.

Amazon may want to lose a few billion per year for 5 years until WalMart is driven under. They could EASILY do this. Unfortunately, WalMart currently employs 2.3 MILLION people (Amazon about 600,000).

I’ve been in many neighborhoods where ToysRUs have been.
Naming those stores “Amazon” is a joke that writes itself.
