I admit, if I could drive, I would do it...:) I love driving on vacation.
I went on a trip a couple of years ago to burn some vacation time, and it was simply a road trip to see America.
Turned up the music real loud, rolled down all the windows, and drove. The only time I didn't drive about 10 hours or more was when I went horseback riding (which I ended up not doing due to rain, but that was the only place I had a reservation)
I was by myself, did about 3500 miles and drove for five days...just went wherever I wanted with no itinerary. I was going from New England down to Virginia to spend a day horseback riding in the Shenandoah Mountains and then I was going to try to make it the Four Corners Monument, but in Louisville I realized I just could not make it time wise...so I went to Nebraska instead...:)
We spread things out a bit on this side of the Mississippi.
My brother worked for thirty years as a dispatcher then computer technician for the Pinellas County Sheriffs office. his wife ran off with a Lutheran preacher years ago and his house is paid off. He has a very nice retirement check and a good sized SS check. He has been driving all over the country and Canada going to country and bluegrass and folk art festivals and seeing all the things he used to look at in National Geographic. He has now a cabin in western North Carolina and returns to his “home” in Tampa for a couple of weeks every year. There is a woman he travels with for four months of the year and she gets him to places he never thought of. He is disgustingly healthy and will do this for years to come. He would never get on an airplane.
