Wonder why Reuters is re-hashing this now.
“amid mounting public pressure for greater gun control.”
Excuse me Media Party, but the jump in NRA memberships and firearms sales in the last while (greatly due to the hateful, spiteful rhetoric from Camera Hogg and his friends) likely challenges that part of your narrative about something like that.
It’s Rooters so it might not be true.
“LOL.
Remington handguns are horrible.”
They royally bollixed the Marlin line.
I would like to see them better supporting their new proprietary Remington Ultra Mag cartridges. I want to build a .338 RUM long range rifle but there’s just no support for the cartridge even though it is on par with if not somewhat better than the .338 Lapua due to it’s smaller diameter case head which allows it to be used in a standard Remington long action i.e. lighter rifles.
Bankruptcy is the legal way to screw all your debtors. They will reorganise and start, with a few exceptions, producing crappy guns again!!!
Filing for bankruptcy does not mean going out of business
The Sandyhook killer was using a Bushmaster. And, the parents of the murdered kids have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Remington. The suit is now before the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court ruling will largely determine Remingtons future.
The sale of guns set records during the Obama era. Yet there are arms related businesses that fell on hard times during a period of prosperity. Bad business decisions were made and strategies were poorly executed. Remington erred by entering the pistol business and partially missed the opportunity presented by modern machine tools to improve their products.
No doubt about it. There is just not the level of hand-fitting the old ones got. Trouble is, many of the old ones you find for sale are somewhere between "smooth" and "worn out" (though they generally hold up better than their competition, all things being equal).
Remington's current iteration can still turn out a good 870, but a new smooth one is an anomaly. I had a late-production 870 repaired by the factory in 2016 that came back not only right, but better than new, functionally... somebody at Ilion still knew what they were doing.
If someone can file a wrongful death lawsuit against a firearms manufacturer over a crime committed with a stolen weapon, that will end more than Remington. That will end the Second Amendment and the US as a free country.
I did the same trade a while back, only I traded a 590 Marinecoat for one. I later traded the 870 plus $100 for a KSG so I made my money back pretty well.
The 870 wingmaster is a good gun. Are you getting into birds?

No argument here. In fact, I thought a law was passed awhile back preventing such lawsuits against fire arms companies but guess not.
FIL, a retired USMC Sgt.Maj. has a Remington 1911, he took off a Viet Cong during Tet. Might of been a WWII left over.
Bargain on an R51... anyone?
For Remington, the problem with the 870 is someone buys an 870 and then they don’t really ever need another shotgun again.
And a GOP congress and White House will determine the 2nd amendment’s future.
That doesn’t give me a lot of confidence.
I don't know... I've got an R1 in stainless that functions quite well... But it's the only Remington handgun I've ever owned....
Just bought a Marlin 1895. Solid gun, good for deer.
But private equity firms destroy value. At least to the consumer.
The Model 1100 was a classic. My dad’s go to gun for dove from the late ‘60s to the mid ‘90s when it just wore out.
Bean counters running the business, period.
Maybe they'll wise up and let some gun guys back in the boardroom, or maybe they won't.
If eventually they go under they won't be missed except for the sense of nostalgia. Savage makes better bolt guns these days, and Mossberg makes a good pump shotgun. That covers everything Remington's ever made that was any good... well except for the Marlin lever guns that the bean counters bought out, which have no peer really, the Henry guns are cute but they don't use a loading gate at the breech.
So if they go under right now we've lost a classic line of lever guns for those who are into that.
Oh, yeah, and a lot of people lose their jobs with scant opportunity to take their skills elsewhere. All because of some bean counters.
