We keep about 50 gallons drinking water on hand. Have a swimming pool of 4000 gallons, three rain barrels of 100 gallons, and a well. Filtering systems, and directions for making filters from nature-sand dirt etc.
We get plenty of rain in the spring, so if we save it we have enough for the garden during the dry season, but some we could also filter and drink.
Saving money to buy a manual pump for well.
Excellent. We are working on it. We don’t have enough, but there is a creek.
Deep well?
How about a solar well pump? Dh got one but hasn’t installed it yet. We have a regular electric run well pump but only use it to fill a 2500 gallon tank. So even if power goes out we have a lot of water on hand, we make sure it doesn’t get very low so we pump it periodically, more in summer of course for watering.
Around here plastic water tanks run about $1 per gallon capacity and can be found a bit cheaper, for potable water.
