Trump deserves a Mulligan (Saturbray)

Matthew 18:21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?

Whoever was advising President Trump that it was better to surrender than fight was bad advice. This was the biggest loss in his Presidency and was easily one of the biggest losses in modern history as the Establishment kicked him in the pebbles repeatedly with a single bill. Whoever came up with the idea of having the four biggest spenders in the swamp to write the bill was pure insanity. Why do you give the minority Party equal footing when you know they never would?

No matter how hopeless it was to veto the bill he would have looked stronger going down fighting rather than surrendering even though he likely considered it a strategic surrender, the visuals were terrible. It weakened him significantly and may never recover as it was obvious the GOP was giving him a taste of what happens to people who want to drain their swamp and showed him he is on his own. Did we see Cruz or Paul filibuster the bill?

The easiest job in the world is being a Dem since you have the entire establishment and media worshiping at your feet. You simply agree with them and act tolerant of everybody and everything and you are a superior person. The second easiest job is being an armchair Conservative. At this point just like GW they will all use this as an excuse to abandon him and stop fighting against the establishment that is too hard.

Nobody expected Trump to do everything right or be a pure Conservative so why be surprised? He saw a bad deal with no other options and took it to cut his losses. He knew if he vetoed it two things were going to happen, it would be overridden within two hours and passed without his signature or most likely was threatened the Military spending would be cut out and a worse bill would be on his desk. Everyone knows Ryan/MarbleMouth have more in common with Schumer than Trump and his supporters so they were going to humiliate him with this bill and for whatever reason put the military in front of himself.

Nobody knows what is really going on with the military and our enemies around the world. One very possible problem is with China and their military growth. Russia is not a threat since they are basically a Turd World country with a bunch of military weapons although their technology is questionable. Can anybody really question the Chinese technology with all of their IPhone and computer sophistication and especially in the next five to ten years? They are becoming the economic and technological power which will be added to their military strength. This should concern everyone as our military has been strangled for the last decade.

It is highly likely we could not fight a war like Iraq again and is questionable how many smart weapons we have left which could be used against N Korea let alone China. China is growing more powerful by the day and even though they are on a friendly basis now who says things may not change in the future. They seem to be on the march against many of the SE Asian countries as they build islands in the sea to threaten the Philippines, Taiwan and Indonesia. They could easily be a threat to Japan and halt shipping lanes in their area and we are basically impotent in stopping their aggression.

Nobody knows why President Trump signed Porkulus 2.0 or how he agreed to allow the four most corrupt people in DC to write it. He should have known at least three of them would take direct aim at him and his voters in the most humiliating means possible. In the end he cannot control Congress and he only has around twenty percent who agree with him and his voters.

Was this a huge mistake? Yes, although now is not the time to give up but to double down. President Trump has already moved this country farther in the right direction than any President since Reagan. In the end he would have been overridden and he had no power to stop it. It would have been better to show his voters he would fight and expose everyone who was stabbing them in the back, but he knew he would need them later. He certainly is not the only one at fault for passing the burden on to our kids.

He needs to start now on the next budget and let them know he is not going to roll over without the wall and real fiscal responsibility. He has to start leading the Party or at least the members who agree with him and put together a coalition who will make a veto stick. This is the primary legislation a President is known so he needs to understand it although he likely does after the cup check he experienced Friday.

Nobody knows what was going on behind the scenes and it is possible he or the Repubs had no choice except to rebuild the military no matter what. That is a monstrous job after nearly twenty years of neglect and misuse. It may be such a situation there is no option other than rebuild and resupply or face grave consequences. The Dems never care about it so they likely held him hostage to more socialist spending or going into the dreaded gummit shutdown. With a GOP leadership who make the French look like Navy SEALS, it is a strategy that works every time without fail.

Now his voters will all go the way of the talk show hosts and bail on President Trump. They will forget all the hard work it took to get him there and declare him a lib. He is not pure enough and let them down when the going got tough so they are going to let him down at the ballot box as revenge. What if they turned the tables and let the Socialists down and elected people who would give President Trump a bill they would be proud of. What if they began organizing their neighborhoods now and supported real Conservatives rather than the McConnells of the Party and really threw a wrench in the Beltway, what would happen then? Up to this bill he has done an outstanding job and for that he deserves a Mulligan. Even without the pass he has done far more for the Conservative cause than anyone ever dreamed he would. In the end he had no choice and neither does America.

Pray America woke

The last budget was in 2015 , over 3 years sgo. Before that was 2009. All the other years were all CRs. There will be no new budget in 2018 with the election pending. I actually dont mind losing a battle but it is hard to accept when you lose the whole war.

I’m not sure Trump needs a mulligan. He teed off and the pill disappeared over the rise. I think he’ll wind up with an eagle, but we won’t know for a little while. When we see the reaction to the letter he sent to the House and Senate, telling THEM, chapter and verse, how that $1.3 Trillion will be spent. Keep calm.

“They will need to have a new budget ready before Sept 28 and they no longer have leverage against POTUS because the military is funded.”

So how much are you willing to put on the line that the new bill will include full funding for the wall, cutting off sanctuary cities, cutting off PP, money for more border agents, cutting off PBS and the arts, cutting off Obamacare... And if it doesn’t, he will veto it?

Other than funding for anything like planned parenthood, I am not upset at Trump. He gave people robust tax cuts. This spending bill, or whatever technical thing it is was not his making.

I am Christian Conservative. I celebrate with everyone when times are financially good but I’m not down when they are not.

Right now the economic situation is looking good. Biggest concern is the national debt. President Trump promised he will never sign this again and he has many more spending bills to come. So be happy.

It is my opinion that trump should resign and give us a chance to get behind Mike Pence. Trump is finished.

I'm glad that's merely your opinion, because it is literally the most moronic post I've read all year. Utterly asinine. Just breathtakingly stupid.

So you're a #NeverTrumper now. Duly noted. You won't be needing to post on FR anymore.

There are plenty of sites on the internet where you can indulge in ignorant #NeverTrump masturbation. You'll soon find that this isn't one of them.

Hopefully, you'll reconsider the "logic" you employed in arriving at your delusional opinion...

The Omnibus funds it until Sept 2018 but The Defense Department has been promised $716 billion for fiscal 2019 under a two-year military spending plan already approved by Congress — $700 billion this year and $716 billion next year.

Good post Bray. I was disappointed...but, he has years to go and he has done amazingly well in the first year. We don’t need the left and media to shake to the foundation our hopes we have in him.

He doesn’t need sunshine soldiers...we should be in for the long haul.

They had the votes to override the veto and would have made political hay about him abandoning the military and leaving them to save the day - why do you think they were so generous with the military funding in the first place - to set him up and it was Dems and RINOs working together. Trump doesn’t need a Mulligan - he did the best he could with what they dealt him.

THIS JUST IN: President Sends Letter to House Designating Emergency Requirement of ALL Funding
Twitter Account | March 24, 2018 | John Salisbury / FR Posted by saywhatagain

ITEM---The President designated as an "emergency requirement" ALL funding so designated by the Congress in the Act pursuant to section 251(b)(2)(A) of the Balanced Budget and Emergency Deficit Control Act of 1985, for the accounts referenced in section 7058(d) (Excerpt) Read more at twitter.com ...

ITEM --- Trump has basically told the House....."See ya in court!"

================================

The details (hat tip John Salisbury):

1. Congress allocates money. The President spends the allocated money.

2. Once Congress allocates money, their job is oversight. They don't spend the money and have no say HOW it gets spent.

3. Once the President is given the money, he has a number of choices in spending it....some of the money is fungible and some isn't. 4. By Trump declaring a Human Rights Emergency AND has notified Congress that he's invoking the Balanced Budget and Emergency Deficit Control Act of 1985, this opens up new spending options. 6. President Trump has just communicated that he has the authority to NOT spend any funds he doesn't deem necessary and will return them to the US Treasury. For example: funds the House allocated for Planned Parenthood? Trump can simply not allocate the funds

7. Trump's declarations also make some funds fungible. For instance if he determines that building a Wall on the Southern Border is a defense against Human Trafficking? He can move funds from anywhere else in the Defense Dept Allocation & simply build the Wall.

8. Congress is powerless to stop cash reallocations AND cannot stop the DOD from taking measures under a presidential-declared Emergency.

9. Despite the House's strict language about the Border Wall, it is outweighed by Trump's declaration of a State of Emergency.

10. Amen

He got a mulligan last budget ....omnibus or CR or whatever it was

He signed it saying now we go to work it’s just an extension

They claim this is only six months yet the baked in allocations are for up to two years

This is GOPe in action

Trumps power is us....he should govern normally to please us since he’s without support anywhere else

Shoulda vetoed and make them override

It isn't a budget.

It expires 30Sept18.

Either you are really stupid or you are a troll sent to suck the joy out of life. You could be both since you excel at both.
