Tiger heavy: underpowered, unmaneuverable, massive armor, lethal cannon.
T-34 was an excellent medium tank, better functionally than the M4, though more primitive.
I once read that Americans (and Russians?) most feared the dual-purpose German 88mm gun, but the Germans most feared the Browning .50 heavy machine gun (best non-cannon ever, I opine). Eight fifties in a P-47 was an awesome ground attack weapon - even against tanks on land and destroyers on water.

See line by Patrick McGoohan in Ice Station Zebra on Russian, British, and American captured German scientists.

Well decorated.
Similar to Rudel.
Seem to have read of him before.

Couldn’t stop reading; this guy was wounded more times than I could count - and he lived to 75. Amazing - thanks for the post.

I think it was covered on season 2 of Greatest Tank Battles on the Military Channel in an episode about the Baltics.
Might be on streaming now

Great post. Thank you.
Apparently, it’s really tough to get promoted in the German Army.
Strachwitz was almost 48 when he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, and he was almost 50 when he became a full Colonel.

This is a good read.

That was an interesting observation I hadn’t ever thought of. Sometimes Christianity thrives best under oppression. I wonder whether that is where we are headed?

I wonder whether that is where we are headed? I think we are already there.
Christians are frequently oppressed in the US and Europe.
Christians have been oppressed in the Middle East for over a thousand years.
It is new in the West but not much anywhere else.

“Technologically the U.S looted more from Germany than the U.S.S.R. Way more. Rocketry, Jet engines, Nuclear, encryption, radar, radio, medical.”
What nonsense is this? The USA broke the Germans encryption, ENIGMA. They never broke ours, SIGABA.
We already had radar as did the Brits.
What radio?
What medical?

Rather like a German General Patton. Most of the German officers were aristocrats like this man, professional, well versed, nationalistic, with a general contempt for the riff raff who composed the Nazi hierarchy.
