What are coyotes doing “north of Pittsburgh”. That was not their “natural habitat” until the envirowackos got involved. Thank you envirowackos.
The entirety of North America was and is the natural habitat of the coyote.
80 MILES north of Pittsburgh... If you ever get to Pittsburgh, drive 80 miles north. Pittsburgh is in the mountains. You don't have to drive very far north to get out of the suburbs and into rural towns. By the time you get to Brookville, your in a small rural town on the edge of State Forest, which was probably established by someone who liked the mountains, woods and streams, but before anyone was being called envirowackos or earthfirsters. The coyotes have been there before, during and after that Billy Penn guy arrived.
Coyotes have been naturally migrating since the 70s. They are the ultimate survivors, filling in the carnivore gap left by wolves and mountain lions.
You kidding? There are coyotes in backyards of suburban neighborhoods
One got my dog many years ago ( SW PA)
They’ve been drifting east for decades. Here in Ohio they’re legal to shoot year round, night or day, no bag limit, bow, crossbow, rifle, shotgun, pistol, or large rocks. Same rules as for feral hogs. We can hear packs of them howling at night sometimes within a few hundred yards of our house. Local authorities have warned that leashed dogs that get away from owners and become tangled up and trapped in the woods are as good as dead.
What are coyotes doing north of Pittsburgh?
There was a coyote wandering about on my street about 2-1/2 years ago. Animal control took care of it. I live in one of the northern suburbs of Buffalo (about 130 miles north from where this took place).

I can’t wait until there are wolf packs roaming central park and DC.
