Coyotes have been naturally migrating since the 70s. They are the ultimate survivors, filling in the carnivore gap left by wolves and mountain lions.
That’s kinda close for comfort. Were you in the pajamas as well?
Drumroll ... What was it doing in your pajamas?
You kidding? There are coyotes in backyards of suburban neighborhoods
One got my dog many years ago ( SW PA)
Back in 1979, we had recently moved into a new house in North Phoenix, AZ, on the side of what Phoenicians would call a mountain. I didn’t know it on this particular morning, but there was a coyote den near the top of that mountain.
I walked out of the house to go get the mail, and right in the middle of the street, less than 50 feet from me was an adult coyote. Being stupid with regard to coyotes, as I stood in the street, I immediately made myself a big as I could, arms outward and slowly moving, and in as low and threatening a voice as I could generate, I yelled at him to go away.
He must’ve understood English, because he turned and ran away. Phew.
Later, I realized I should have been the one to run away, back in the house.
I thinking you didn't take it to Alabama afterwards. No tusks.
You’re talking about their “modern”, just read that, habitat. Coyotes are now as far north as Alaska. I saw a show a couple years ago that coyotes are now breeding with wolves in Canada. If that had been their natural habitat, I’m sure Wylie Coyote would have copulated with wolves long ago.

Pretty sure we’ve seen a coyote walking down the alley behjnd our house
Did not look like a fox
Luckily our cat is an indoor cat
Coyotes love cat
Just a single rabies vaccination? We no longer do the series of shots?
In a related item, a few days ago a Bobcat was captured aboard the Gateway Clipper tour boat, docked in the river downtown.
We are pretty much surrounded by coyotes. We hear them howling, when we’re outside, at night.
The closest we’ve actually spotted one is about 300 yards away.
What was the coyote doing in your pajamas?
They’ve been drifting east for decades. Here in Ohio they’re legal to shoot year round, night or day, no bag limit, bow, crossbow, rifle, shotgun, pistol, or large rocks. Same rules as for feral hogs. We can hear packs of them howling at night sometimes within a few hundred yards of our house. Local authorities have warned that leashed dogs that get away from owners and become tangled up and trapped in the woods are as good as dead.
When I was a kid growing up in Arizona, a coyote would run like hell when they got the scent of a human in the area. These days, they sun themselves along the side of the road. In Phoenix, they travel through neighborhoods on the tops of the walls looking for pets that have not been brought into the house for the night.
What are coyotes doing north of Pittsburgh?
There was a coyote wandering about on my street about 2-1/2 years ago. Animal control took care of it. I live in one of the northern suburbs of Buffalo (about 130 miles north from where this took place).
That’ll teach him. Nothing like a pajama-thieving coyote.
We are lousy with coyotes in Metro Atlanta.
Legal to hunt. I have no qualms taking one down if it shows up here. My pets and kids are more important.
