A 9-year-old boy fatally shot his 13-year-old sister Saturday (March 17) in northeast Mississippi after she refused to hand over a video game controller, The Clarion-Ledger reports.

Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell told the Jackson, Mississippi, newspaper the boy is accused of shooting his sister in the back of the head with a .25 caliber handgun.

The girl was rushed to Le Bonheur's Children's Hospital in Memphis where she died Sunday at 6:45 p.m.

Authorities don't yet know how the child had access to the weapon they say he used to shoot his sister. It's also unclear how much knowledge the boy had of the dangers of guns.

"He’s just 9. I assume he’s seen this on video games or TV," Cantrell said. "I don't know if he knew exactly what this would do. I can’t answer that. I do know it’s a tragedy."

And I bet the kid has issues anyway. Likely best to convict and take him out and execute him. Save everyone a lot of grief in the future.

Are you seriously advocating the execution of a nine-year-old child?

The teenage girl who was killed when she was allegedly shot by her 9-year-old brother has been identified as Dijonae White.

The children's mother was in another room feeding lunch to three or four other children when the shooting occurred, Cantrell said.

If it turns out the kid has issues, knew what he was doing, and is likely to do same again, sure. I’m sorry but a kid that goes and gets a pistol and blows his sisters brains out is not normal. Lifelong incarceration is probably cruel. Release him and make him your neighbor, around your kids or grandkids but keep him far from mine.

My husband was in law enforcement for 35 years. Our kids grew up with guns in the house. Most of his personal weapons were in a safe, but his service revolver was kept in the coat closet top shelf.

The kids knew and probably their friends knew and yet not once did any of them ever express any interest in the gun. My kids would have some pretty heated arguments but the worst of it (thank God), was when they slammed their bedroom doors.

How times change.

Authorities don't yet know how the child had access to the weapon they say he used to shoot his sister.

Of course he bought it from the NRA's online kids gun store or at a yoofs gun show. /s

Actually, in all the news stories I saw today, they showed a white boy's hands holding a video game controller.

The shooter was an out of control African-American boy from a fatherless welfare household.

The same kind that are shooting up $hitcago.

“The kids in our house knew *where* the guns were located, yet we would not EVER touch them without mom and dad around. We would still be punished now...decades and decades later.”

Same in our house growing up, same in my
house. I introduced my kids at an early
age to shooting. They witnessed first
hand the destructive power that even
a small caliber weapon can deliver.
They knew where the guns were, but
had a healthy respect for them, and were
never touched without permission.
This nine year old suffers from bad
parenting. Sad.
