JK Rowling has recently stated that Dumbledore and Johnny Depp's character were lovers, but that it wouldn't be "explicitly" explored in the forthcoming sequel, "Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald."

The trailer looks pretty good, and I was hoping there wouldn't be any silly mention of the gay aspect to the two characters, but it sure is creeping in. I went to look at the Wikipedia page for the movie today and I noticed this", under the character headings:

In Deathly Hallows, it was revealed that Grindelwald had gone to Godric’s Hollow to investigate the grave of the Peverell brothers (the original owners of the Hallows), but struck up a close friendship with Dumbledore, and the two planned to establish a new world order, where wizards would rule over Muggles “for the greater good”.
