The Devonshires are a very interesting business, literally. This rehab provided lots of jobs for skilled workers of all kinds, and I hope Chatsworth enjoys many more picturesque years.

Oh quite a bit. They are one of the few high nobility who have managed to hang onto their ancestral seat. Most of the Great Houses end up going to the National Trust because the heirs can not afford the taxes.
It is actually quite sad.
Lots of the nobility and the gentry lost their homes because of the two world wars. Every time the home passed the government took their cut and that could happen several times over a short period.
