When I was out clubbing back in the day, this is one of the songs they would play when it was 2:00 am, the lights went on, and they wanted to clear the room. Worked like a charm.
I heard a story about that song the other day. They were grooming him to be a singer and one of the top guys in charge of him got a phone call from a crazy ex girlfriend. Rick said.....dude, shes never gonna give you up.
And the song was born.
"Sex (I'm a...)" by Berlin is much worse.
Peter Cetera: What happens when a good rock band starts writing love ballads.
Chicago went to hell after Terry Kath died.
It probably was the video that made me hate that song more than anything else.
But even bad music can bring back good memories of one’s youth.
Call it “crapstalgia”
Not a fan of George Michael, but his 1990 song Freedom is probably my favorite. I think the video with all of the supermodels might have something to do with it. There was just something about Linda Evangelista ..
Amen brother.
Peter's first order of business was to claim the mantle of band leader and lobby to get rid of the horns. THE HORNS.
He got what he deserved. Nothing.
Was listening to deep tracks yesterday, came across Chicago's "Mother". A song that never made heavy rotation but sums up the Chicago sound like no other.
I like most of them, although the Rick Astley “Never gonna give you up” got a bit old with the rick-rolled meme that was so popular a few years ago.
Shows you how much I’ve tuned that song out. Thanks for the correction.
1965 - switched from pop/rock to opera. Never looked back.
My favorite Chicago song was “A Hit By Varese”.
Bobby Lamm may have been a Nixon-hating lefty, but he wrote some damn good songs in their early days.
I couldn't care..a wit.
Anything by Bon Jovi. They could fill any top 10 list of suck.
You misread. This isn’t a list of the best songs...
Turning Japanese was a metaphor for the face you make when having sex. So that makes it a great song.
WTF? Where’s Milli Vanillli? I guess that don’t count.
Especially "She's a Little Runaway."
Rick Astley actually has one of the all-time top-10 authentic Brit voices, I think. He should have taken it metal.
Hah! I was on work trip to Minneapolis. Sitting in the bar/lounge of the Holiday inn. This woman comes up to me and asks to dance. Turns out she’s from Australia. It’s a slow song and we talk and dance. The song comes to an end and the band starts playing “Wake Me Up Before...”. People start emptying dance floor. She says, “You want to stay and dance?”. I say, “Sure!”
We danced that song off the floor. At the end people applauded and bought us drinks.
The night did not end until two in the morning and it did not end in the lounge. Her name was Catherine and she was a visiting nurse.
I have truly fond memories when that song plays.
