A mother and daughter whose puppy died while flying United are alleging that a flight attendant knowingly forced the animal into an overhead bin.
And now Catalina Robledo and her young daughter, Sophia Ceballos, are saying the flight attendant responsible is lying about the encounter that killed their 10-month-old French bulldog, Kokito.
"It makes me feel sad -- I just really miss him," Sophia, 11, said Tuesday in an interview with ABC News. "He was a member of our family. He was like my brother to me."
"He was special," she added, holding back tears. "He was really smart and really sweet too."
The family is alleging that the United employee knew there was a dog in the bag when asked to place it in the overhead bin.
"The flight attendant came, and she was like, 'You have to put him up there because it's going to block the path,'" said Sophia, speaking on behalf of her mother, who isn't fluent in English. "And we were like, 'It's a dog, it's a dog." And she said, 'It doesn't matter, you still have to put it up there.'"
A passenger on the flight told ABC News that the flight attendant didn't know there was a dog in the bag when she insisted on moving it to the overhead compartment. Upon hearing that there was a dog in the bag after the flight landed the flight attendant "seemed frazzled and shocked," the passenger said. "She said that she did not know there was a dog in the bag, and if so she never would have instructed it to be put in the bin above."

Agree.
Multiple stupid people involved here, including the adult owner with poor English not following airline rules about pet carriers and placement under the seat, not the aisle.
Stupid attendant claiming she didn’t know, darling, it’s your job to know and you didn’t listen to the customer trying to explain. I would fire her, immediately, because she is either evil or stupid, neither attribute is useful to the company.
Stupid passengers MYOBing, instead of speaking up.
So much stupid it’s amazing the plane didn’t fall out of the sky.
No carrier. Looks like dog was stuffed in overhead. Articles say dog barked for two hours before going quiet. I hate people.
Spirit, not Southwest
I was horrified to read this story this morning, and in mental anguish over the pup’s suffering. I would never have followed the flight attendant’s stupid order, even if I had to take a later flight. There is not enough circulating air in an overhead bin, especially for a flat-faced bulldog breed. This flight attendant is lying and should be sued for a very high amount of money. And, United should be sued as well, for giving authority to imbeciles like this flight attendant. Why couldn’t they have shoved the carrier under a seat? I’ve done that while flying with a kitten. Or, if there wasn’t room, flight attendants equipped with brains offer to put the carrier back by the kitchen. This puppy did not have to die, and French bulldogs are very expensive.
As I understand it, that is not true. Instead, the dog was in the sort of soft-sided pet carrier that is commonly used on planes. Sure, Mom should have put up more of a stink. As should the other passengers.
Man that is just so sad. My daughters best friend has a little French bulldog, and he is the sweetest thing. I feel very sorry for the little girl who lost her buddy due to the stupidity of every adult surrounding her.

Bitch should be fired and fined into bankruptcy.
You are assuming that the dog owner is telling the truth. Sounds to me like the mother didn't mention there was a dog in the bag (BECAUSE she didn't want to pay to put it in cargo) and after she found it dead, decided to avoid any responsibility (and the anger of her child) by blaming the hostess.
Bingo. and it only took 5 posts before a thinking person asked the appropriate question. What about this bag the family put their dog into as they boarded an airplane. How was the dog supposed to breathe in a sealed carry on bag and why did they even bring a dog on an airplane?
I am not excusing the airline. If they knowingly stuffed a sealed bag carrying a dog they should be held responsible.
One doesn't have to take sides in a stupid case like this. BOTH sides were at fault.
Was THIS the bag the family placed a dog into to board an airplane?
>>Flight attendants, particularly the ones who have been around the longest, become brain dead<<
Well when they become “brain dead” they should be terminated because they have become a threat to public safety.
Well, after reading the rest of the posts, I must say I seem to be wrong.
Are the overhead bins airtight ? If the dog barked for 2 hours, maybe he barked himself to death.
>>How could the puppy die in a overhead bin????<<
Lack of oxygen.
Yeah, because there seems to be a lot of conflict in the 'stories' about this incident.
Money heals all wounds.
According to one poster the dog barked for 2 hours.
Any normal person would have asked the stewardesses to do something about the dog.
I haven't read or heard that anyone complained. Odd ?

I agree with every word in your post, and I will attempt never to fly United again unless ther is absolutely no alternative.
Certainly doesn’t look like a TSA approved pet carrier.
