A search for a 14-year-old who authorities said jumped into the Mississippi River was called off over the weekend, leaving his family and others who knew him desperate to recover his body and questioning how a chase of a stolen vehicle ended in a boy's death.
Ja'sean Williams was identified by family members as the teen who they presume has died after he went into the river early Thursday (March 8). The St. Bernard Sheriff's Office said Ja'sean jumped into the river near the Chalmette Ferry Landing, after police chased him and another boy in a stolen car.
"Something went wrong on that bridge and ... we want answers," said his mother, Sonya Williams.
According to a news release, Ja'sean was driving a stolen Infiniti FX35 near the intersection of Paris Road and Casa Calvo Street shortly before 2 a.m. Thursday when Sheriff's Office deputies tried to stop the car for a "suspected moving violation."
Ja'sean refused to stop, the report states, and "fled at a high rate of speed," southbound on Paris Road towards the ferry landing. The car crashed into a guard rail of the ferry landing and, with the car stuck, Ja'sean got out and tried to run away before jumping in the river, according to the report.
The 15-year-old passenger who had been in the car was caught by deputies and booked with resisting arrest, possession of stolen property and obstruction of justice, according to the sheriff's office.
Ja'sean's mother, Sonya Williams said the 15-year-old boy picked up her son in the stolen car late Wednesday and the two went to their friend's house in Little Woods. The boy told her they left around 1 a.m. and he was tired, so he asked Ja'sean to drive. According to Sonya Williams, the boy said Ja'sean missed the exit

Probably had a heart attack the minute he plunged into that icy water.
Second grade?
There were ice flows visible on the surface too.
A-MEN!!!!
Honey, something went wrong long before that bridge ...
we want answers,"
Look to yourself.
We SQL programmers lose names with single quotes in them all the time. If you want your kids to get hosed up in databases all their born days, go ahead and put a single quote in their name.
It used to be Irish last names. Now it’s black first names. Do your kids a favor and NEVER put a character other than A-Z, a-z in their names.
Lol! I’m late getting here but I was just about to post the exact thing you did.
+1
One: these pictures are old, this kid is not 15. Two: the mother is so sure the kid would not jump in the river. But he would steel a car and run from police?
It seems like the mother is covering her butt and her sons. However, we know he steels cars, joy rides until very late into the early morning. He evades police at a high rate of speed. He destroys the car he steels. Then he runs from the cops on foot. Ok, but we are so sure he would not jump in the water? I think the mother has no idea what her son is capable of.
Mama needs to watch this video from an African American LEO who grew up in the hood:

I started meeting Mr. Holely Paddle in 7th grade by 9th grade I had figured out how to not get caught.
Probably was desperate to get to church choir practice. Anyway, no more crime from him.
Like La-a...and the dash don’t be silent?
BOY. You waz acting stupid. and thats just what you get when you act that way.
Escape them suckers!
Bad parenting all the way around. I also don’t believe that he knew how to swim.
It might not matter, depending on the river and the part of the river.
From the novel, Collateral Crimes:
Jesse said, Are you okay?
Yes. Its just that Ive never told anyone about my dad.
We can talk about something else.
No, I want to tell you. I feel I can tell you anything.
Jesses eyes welled up.
Jonathan said, It was in the summer. I was twelve. We were camped out next to the Kern, doing some trout fishing. It was really hot outlike hereso we decided to go swimming. He looked around and couldnt find a towel so he dabbed his eyes with her bra. The Kern isnt like this little creek. Its a lot bigger, and strong. But where we were camped it was slow because the river was shallow and really wide. At first it was awesome. The water was so cool and we were floating along having a great time. But the river got narrower and started running faster. We could hear the rapids up ahead and my dad said to get out, but we couldnt. The bank was muddy and we couldnt get a foothold. We tried to grab some reeds growing up near the bank, but when we grabbed them they just pulled out of the mud. It got even faster but we were helpless against it. We could see the rapids, and just before we got to them we saw a tree growing out of the river near the shore. We managed to grab hold of it, but the force of the water was pulling on us, pulling us down. My head was underwater and I was holding on with my fingertips dug into the bark. I dont know how but I managed to pull myself back and wedge myself between the flow of the river and the tree, so that the pressure was pinning me against it. Once I did that, I was able to climb up the trunk out of the water. I sat down on a branch and when I looked back at the river, I saw my dad being pulled under. He was looking up at me from underwater as he was swept away. I saw him bounce off a boulder and there was blood in the water. Then he was gone.
Jesse sat next to Jonathan and held him in her arms.
To me, that's heartless. Certainly, he brought it on himself, but I think "deserving" it is a moral judgement, and I would refrain from it.
*Harrumph*
More than likely.
