On March 6, 1998, a little movie called The Big Lebowski opened in half-empty theaters across the country, and anyone expecting the Coen brothers to get serious for their follow-up to the Oscar-winning Fargo was in for a very chill surprise. A dopey but profound slacker noir about a guy a conscientious objector to all human conflict whose quest to avenge a soiled rug unravels into a wild goose chase involving all sorts of inherent vice, The Big Lebowski may not have been much of a hit at the box office, but it took on a life of its own after that.

The funeral scene with the coffee can is an all time classic

I laugh out loud every single time I watch that scene. I howl. Who hasn't done the same thing at one time or another? :-)
One of my favorite scenes is Walter spreading Donnie's ashes out over the Pacific.
The look on The Dude's face is priceless when the wind carries them in the wrong direction.

That movie sucked, big time. I guess I just dont get it.
I love a lot of obscure, off-beat films, and comedies in particular, but that movie flat out sucks.

I always think of this movie in the same vein as "Napoleon Dynamite." Not really much of a plot, just a lot of bizarre slice-of-life interactions. But I love "Napoleon Dynamite." I hated "Lebowski" and still do. I don't know why. But hey, that's just ... like ... my opinion. After occasionally hearing about the greatness of Napoleon Dynamite over the years, I finally stumbled across is and recorded it. I absolutely hated it. The main character was annoying, not funny. Nobody else in the movie was any better.
If The Big Lebowski is worse than that, then I'd rather have my toenails pulled off with pliers than watch it.

Having said that, I do think Jeff Bridges is one of the greatest actors of all time. Just watch him in True Grit - should have won an Oscar for that one.

My favorite moves of all time:
Big Trouble in Little China
Army of Darkness
Repo Man
The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eight Dimension.
Throw in "They Live" and you have my top five.

I saw Jeff Bridges in “Against All Odds” and thought “Hey, I could lose 10 pounds and look like that”
I did and I did and I was starving. Skip that....

I first heard this on the Judy Canova radio show in 1952:
“Which would you rather be in, an explosion or a collision?”
“A collision, any day.”
“How come?”
“Because in a collision, there you are. In an explosion, where are you?”

No way is "the Dude" Lebowski as annoying as the guy in that picture.
And while there are some annoying things in Lebowski there's enough inventiveness and variety in the picture to offset it.
Napoleon Dynamite felt claustrophobic -- you just couldn't get away from that idiot and his idiot sidekick, Pedro.

It’s a brainless movie more horrid than A Christmas Story.
