My high school biology teacher (Minnesota) said that some sort of cat - a Lynx iirc - can make a sound like some woman is screaming like she is being killed. He said that even knowing what it is - it would make his hair stand up on his neck at night at his cabin in the woods.

I’ll need to review this thread tomorrow.

A bobcat does that, yes. Not sure about lynx or federal park service game wardens posing as lynx either.

I remember walking through the woods late at on my way home with a buddy of mine, I guess when I was around 10 years old. It was absolutely quiet and darker than the inside of a cow.

Then a screech owl decided it might be fun to let us know that he was around. It was the first time that either of us ever heard one.

The words "frozen in terror" come to mind. We hugged each other like Shaggy and Scooby.

Damn, it sure is funny forty or so years later. But I about sperlt mah britches back then.
