A CSX train derailed on a bridge over the Susquehanna River on Friday night, causing four empty rail cars to fall into the water below.
The freight train headed to Richmond, Va., derailed between Cecil and Harford counties at about 8 p.m. Friday, CSX officials said in a statement. No injuries were reported, no hazardous materials were involved and there appears to be no environmental impact, officials said.
Officials said the cause of the derailment remains under investigation, and could not say whether Fridays strong winds caused the empty rail cars to come off the tracks.

That’s nice.
Is there some point to your comments? Thanks.
That’s about 5 miles from my home
Yes - a ‘reference’ point.
Mine too. Surprised not to hear about this.
That’s plenty scary, considering how much train cars weigh. I was driving on a freeway in the wind the other day and felt like I was going to blow off the road.
****Thats about 5 miles from my home*****
I posted a complete map of all the US rail lines -( you can probably find your house;) and was surprised to see how rail lines cover the country.
Thankfully, this incident did not involve a passenger train and there were no injuries caused.
These incidents were tragic.

How windy was it when the derailment happened?
Yes, hubby was stuck on the wrong side of the Susquehanna on Friday night. Ask him about his commute.
Lil’freeper had scheduled to take the day off, so she was thankful she missed it.
Guts up to 60 mph according to the weather service, but that location is like a wind tunnel under normal conditions.
Reported winds in the storm overall where in excess of 90mph in some areas. That would take empty train cars off of a bridge.
Is this a case of “you can’t fix stupid”? Should that train have been out there in the wind?
Our weather services did not report the storm that was coming.
Bastardi did. No one else.
derailed between Cecil and Harford counties
***********
Since you live nearby can you explain what county was the event in?
One of the two listed in the article or a different one not named.
Great Railroad Road summary thanks.
On the rail bridge over the Susquehanna River between Cecil and Harford counties in north east Maryland. I live in Harford and have friends in Cecil. I assure you that both exist.
There are two rail bridges. One is only used by CSX. The other is shared with Amtrak. The cars fell off the Amtrak bridge.
As others have mentioned, the wind blows like crazy up or down the river. Trucks tend to flip on the I-95 bridge.
Are you really Willie Green? ;-)
