As we know, one way activists like to energize a serious campaign is to make them fun. Thats the approach taken by a group of young UK campaigners who want to shine a light on the lack of on-screen diversity.
In what one local communications director described as the PR stunt of the day, a group of young black Londoners, going under the banner Legally Black, have reimagined the posters of famous movies and TV shows such as Titanic, Harry Potter and Doctor Who by replacing white actors with black leads. If you are surprised it means you dont see enough black people in major roles, says the group, many of whom are teenagers. Legally Black chose a fitting week to go viral as movies and activism will be particularly linked this weekend. Something tells me Three Billboards Mildred would approve.
The group, which roped in friends and family to star as their new actor leads, initially reached out to private media agencies about an official campaign on London buses but didnt get a response. So fellow activist unit Special Patrol Group, which has in the past run vandal advertising campaigns targeting police corruption, took it on themselves to print out the posters and placed them in bus stop billboards overnight this week.
The stealth campaign, which has been seen in the Brixton area of South London, has proven a hit with locals and the media.

Prominent UK actors such as Lenny Henry (Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban) and Adrian Lester (Hustle) are among those to laud the stunt on social media.
By yesterday evening the posters had been taken down and replaced with adverts for McDonalds. But not before the campaign caught fire and reminded us of the serious message at its heart. How can people feel an equal part of society if they only see one type of star on screen? Recent research by the British Film Institute shows that black actors played only 218 lead roles in the 1,172 British films released between 2006 and 2016, meaning black actors played less than 1% of the total available roles. More than half of UK films made over the past 10 years do not have black actors in any role and only 15 black actors have played two or more lead roles in films since 2006.
+1 !
Oxymoron
That is one of the things that really irritates me.
To the left, it is a given, an untarnishable, immovable, unchanging, accepted truth that the simple presence of people of different cultures of colors improves things.
Factually, there exists plenty of real-life experience to prove just the opposite. But nope, if you contest that, hey, you are a racist.
One might innocently ask (only to be ignored or shouted down) why there is this movement to have women only areas, black only areas, or hispanic only areas on college campuses...doesn’t the monochromaticity make them LESS useful and LESS desirable places to be?
Reminds me of the other version:
"Slaves don't dream to be free... they dream to be the masters!"
The Laroche family, father Joseph and daughters Simonne and Louise, were the only known passengers of black ancestry on board the ship. They, along with Joseph’s pregnant wife Juliette, were travelling to Joseph’s native island of Haiti. Joseph hoped that a move from their former home in Paris back to Haiti, where his uncle Cincinnatus Leconte was president, would take his family away from racial discrimination.[19]

How could she be any worse than the original (all 13 of them)?
The most demoralizing thing about the current race-baiting climate is the relative silence of those hundreds of thousands (millions?) of minority individuals who view American citizenship, advancement, and prosperity as goals unattainable via subscribing to the ethnic/racial whining of the 'new segregationists'.
But my solution to all the above is gonna have to wait a couple hours cuz my alma mater is on the court against Purdue ;-)
Good post...you nailed it. Good luck to your alma mater...:)
Thanks, FRiend
(they’ll prolly need it - Purdue has a guy who’s 7’2” )-:
What God created is way above me but so many created with a different skin color are some of the most culturally insecure and worthless people on the planet. Conversely those with the white skin who are mentally ill with liberalism are the plague of our time.

Many Chinese and Hispanic lead roles in Nigerian television programs?
You want to talk racism? Hollywood’s got it in spades.
John Woo, Tsui Hark, and Jackie Chan knew how to make movies in Hong Kong that were hits around the world. Sold well to people in countries that did not have Asian majorities. Plenty of non-Asians enjoyed the films.
In the 1990s Hollywood (Turner and Mirimax) bought up distribution rights, hacked and slashed the films down, rescored them, etc for US audience. Also as 1997’s handover of Hong Kong loomed, the A-list of Chinese cinema started to look Westward.
But they couldn’t make a movie with their Asian leads here. Had to counterbalance the Asian guy with a black white white actor who buddied up (or was the nemesis).
The formula didn’t work as well. Eventually many of them returned to make films in China.
Hamilton wasn’t black but William Shakespeare WAS a Klingon.
Fahrenheit 451 is a book.
It’s a book critical of people becoming too lazy to read and immerse themselves in the text and ideas.
One film adaptation was a stretch. A revisionist approach is nonsensical.
Why aren’t more white people on BET?
Does France still restrict the amount of foreign films on their screens and tvs?
Social justice warriors would be dangerous, if they knew how to write English clearly and competently.
Before jumping into an incomprehensible mish mash of "liberal statistics" throwing out comparisons of apples, oranges, grapes and penguins.
If anyone can follow the mixture of apparently random numbers and percentages, both given and missing, they're a better man than I am...
I almost forgot the main questions.
No, when I go to the movies I do not, and have never asked myself if I feel like a member of the society depicted in the movie. What kind of a loser would?
Usually I go to be entertained, almost always by fictional fantasies, if there is even a hint of an agenda, I'm not interested..
France is part of the EU which requires 50% EU produced content. France may add to this requirement, and probably still has a 40% quota of French produced content (which can be part of the 50% EU).
But I was talking about China which allows around 34 non-China made films to be shown in its theaters each year. Sometimes they make exceptions. Some people include this along with other tech restrictions (no Facebook, Google, etc.) as part of the “Great Firewall” of China.

China doesn’t have to screen the Hollywood movies if there is a rampant piracy of content going on there.
