That is way, way too young for that. Kids are usually closer to 20 when that breaks.

Keeping you and your family in prayer. I encourage you and your child to explore the New Testament, perhaps beginning with the Book of John. God loves each of you more than we can understand or imagine.

A friend was just telling me last week that they started to give her 9 year old Melatonin and it has made a big change in him.
More relaxed during the day and now sleeping through the night.
https://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/ingredientmono-940-melatonin.aspx?activeingredientid=940&activeingredientname=melatonin

I will keep you and family in my prayers.

I presume male. Regardless the gender, just curious: Was he/she born cesarean?

You will get 1001 opinions asking for help in this manner.

I will give you 2 sources of information, one an article you might wish to purchase for your own knowledge:

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0166223613000088

https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/inner-source/201411/the-gut-microbiome-anxiety-and-depression-6-steps-take

One more piece of sage advice from a guy writing a collection of books totalling over 1000 pages and an equivalent number of references, one of which is all about the gut: There is no single point fix for your child. Though one of the articles I linked asserts a simple approach, you must remove antagonists. On that topic, there is much hyperbole, but it includes medications, chemicals, tap water, certain types of foods (including soy) and many others. You desperately need to find a Naturopath to guide you in this respect.

Trust me: This is your best course of action.

Excellent point -- for the Upper Valley and western NH Hanover is a lot closer than Boston.

There is a very strong group of mental health professionals at Dartmouth Hitchcock. They also have a crisis consulting group, maybe a good place to start.

As long as there is no medical problem, I would suggest searching for camp or an agriculture opportunity to send the child for a little time out. Everything I learned about coping, I learned in a garden.
Our culture encourages chaos, but living in a farm community will ground a person.
Plus the time out would give you and your wife much needed rest.
Right now there is probably anger darting in all kinds of directions (depression is inward directed anger).
But as always, the big answer is prayer.

Not to gainsay all the good advice on this thread...but does your child have a pet? Sometimes a funny dog or affectionate kitty can make a great difference in the life of a child that age.

We always welcome prayers: it’s a zoo around here. However, Drama Queen is doing better these days, especially since she broke up with her latest boyfriend, who expected her to answer messages 24/7.

My cousin did her residency in psychiatry there and did research for several years after that. Talking to her every few years just blew me away the stuff they were doing there.

My Dad would go there for his medical issues. They lived in NE VT , about 90 minutes away.

It’s a fascinating place, almost in the middle of nowhere.

Why not take medication if the doctors reccomend? Don’t listen to all the crap about antidepressants that you see on the net and also on FR. They have drastically improved the lives of many millions.

A very tough age for a kid, developing into an adult, a lot of confused feelings there.
Melatonin might help with any sleep disorder, helped a friend of mine with her son.
My grand daughter 19 was quite ill last year, suddenly a lot of allergies to all kinds of food, could not focus and would get
Anaphylaxis and had to use Epinephrine Auto-Injector.
All kinds of doctors, regular MD’s, naturalists etc.
Kept it under control with limited diet and vitamins.
We all prayed very hard for her.
One day a box showed up on their doorstep from Amazon, they did not order it and called Amazon. The parcel was supposed to go to a health clinic in CA. They said just keep it, it sat there for a few weeks.
Then when they opened it, it contained vitamins and Glutathione. Asked their specialist and explored gluthathione and she started taking it, felt better that night.
Here is an article on it.
Glutathione: The Mother of All Antioxidants
https://www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-mark-hyman/glutathione-the-mother-of_b_530494.html

She is now 85% better with the vitamins and the gluthathione and watching her diet and less classes at college.
I thought heck if it did that for her, I am going to try it.
She takes 1250 mg a day broken up, I started taking 250 mg in the morning on an empty stomach.
I feel better and it has almost cured my IBS. I did not change my diet.
This is what I take.
https://www.amazon.com/NOW-Glutathione-250-Veg-Capsules/dp/B0013OXELE
If you want to know what the vitamins are, I can check for you.
Also, have you ever thought of maybe once or twice a month you and her help out at a homeless shelter. Sometimes that can be such a rude awakening to someone that age and then they can really appreciate what they have as she would see kids her own age who are not as fortunate as her.
I know I have rattled. Please excuse.
Prayers and hugs.
LL

Give your child a complete medical work up. Graves disease caused a great deal of emotional issues in my child.

I didn’t say “preachers”.

I said qualified psychiatric help, preferably FROM your church.

Meaning a shrink with a faith base, so they’re not promoting secular nonsense.

Do you kneel down and pray together every night.

Does she know God loves her?

Something is missing in this picture.

Discipline?

Take her phone away until she can start behaving like a normal 12 year old.
