Dish has voice control remotes.
Works great.

Also, ALEXA devices can be connected as well.
I have one and can change channels from anywhere in the room without touching a button.

Google Home. Alexa. Samsung smart TVs. Roku.

They are all capable of voice control for TV viewing.

Yeah, they’re around. But be advised, if you say “#$$^&%^&” it will turn your TV to CNN.

When I was a kid, I was the remote. My dad issued a verbal command, and I changed the channel or adjusted the volume.

Alexa can control your TV. True. A friend who runs an AV integration business was just showing me how to do it.

You can also tell Alexa to “Turn that SH!T OFF!” Or, if you want her to blow a gasket, tell her to “Find me a conservative show with wholesome family values” or “Find me a show without homos.”

“I’m sorry, POF, I cannot do that.”

Ask the Chinese, don’t they already listen in our homes through our TV’s?

I know I’m old fashioned, and subject to getting flamed, but, oh well - - -

Voice command? I have have had two of those new fangled cars where I can voice command the radio, heater and God knows what else. To me this is just dumb. If I’m too lazy to do these little push button/dial rotating tasks myself, it just does not need to be done.

Now in heavy traffic this may be more of a safety feature than a convenience one. But for the TV remote? Pushing a button, or just getting off my lazy rear to go manually change a channel really is not a bother.

There is probably a Raspberry Pi project to handle this...just google - Raspberry Pi voice controlled remote.

It would be pretty simple to create. IR remote codes are easily generated by a Pi and sent to an IR LED.

And someone just has to have created some voice recognition code.

Cox Contour does voice commands, it’s “universal” so I think it can hit the TV too. Never tried that because the volume buttons are faster than pushing the voice button and talking.

Amazon Fire TV along with Playstation Vue will do exactly what you want and more. For example, if you are watching a recorded program, you can say “fast forward 60 minutes” and it will do it.

They have some but is it really too much effort to hold the remote since we no longer have to walk to the TV to hit a button or turn a knob?

I know some people that like them but, next up will be brain implants that feed video and audio directly so one can "watch" TV w/o actually having to use their eyes....
