They told him to put down the gun and he disobeyed them
Whatever his reasoning- he chose... poorly

Cant fault the cops on this one

Then the popo says “drop the weapon” it’s time to drop the weapon. Right now.

Graces deserves a reward. Would like to see a tape of the incident as it sounds like the cop may have reacted too quickly.

Not sure what to think about this. Cops hear of a mass shooting, and see a shirtless man holding a gun, who according to reports, doesn’t drop the gun immediately.

Thank God Tony Garces acted, but beyond his brave act, from info in this article, hard to untangle right from wrong after that point.

“Everyone was running, man,” he said. “I turned back. Took my shirt off, getting ready for whatever.”

Whatever included grabbing a pistol out of the hands of the gun man after several other men forced him to the floor.

“I said ‘hey, hey I got the gun,’” said Garces. “’I took the gun away from him.’ … They (the police) said throw it down. I wasn’t going to throw it down because it could have fired. It had bullets in it, you know. I didn’t want anyone else getting hurt. … Then pop, pop they shot me. … I went down, then a puddle of blood. … I thought I was a goner.”

3 takeaways:
1. As noted, he should have listened, though I’d like to hear it from a witness rather than take the reporter’s word.
2. He should be dead.
3. Marksmanship training should be the order of the day.

Special note: Rehabilitation class in Faith City Mission in Amarillo, TX had security personnel. Seems like an interesting back story there.

Why would he take off his shirt?

He should have dodged the slow handgun bullets the police were lobbing at him.

Another tip other than when a cop says drop the gun you drop it, Don't ever tell a cop "I have a gun." Even if you have a CCL, Tell them you have a CCL, don't say the word "gun". If you have a CCL, he will respond "where is it?" Then you can tell him where it is. He then may ask you to take it out with 2 fingers.

If you didn't learn this stuff in CCL class, you need to take it again with a new teacher.

He could have saved the city the cost of two bullets if he’d complied with the police but put the gun down slowly and carefully.

Good thing he didn’t have his dog with him.

He took his shirt off?

Isn’t that universal sign language for “I’m the perp”?

Icing on the cake would be to charge him with unlawful possession of a firearm. But this is Texas. NE states would lock him up for a couple of years regardless of his act of bravery.

If police arrive and see that you’ve just disarmed an attacker and tell you to “throw” the handgun on the floor, don’t hesitate in the confusion! Or they’ll kill you! Throw it on the floor, hard, so they can kill you for throwing it and making it go off!

Better yet, simply run or hide from any bad situation that develops, like the rest of our population is doing. In case you haven’t noticed from the policies of today, it’s them against you. Don’t talk to them or anyone who says anything negative about government. Hide. Be quiet. Don’t say anything controversial on your phone or on the Net. Don’t access anything on the Net that can be used against you in a report. Don’t do anything that most other people aren’t doing. Spend plenty of money on entertainment and toys. They’re watching you.

LOL! I’ll watch the insanity from here and let all of the kooks and retards wipe each other out on the highways, in churches and everywhere.

If you are fortunate enough to wrest the gun from somebody, when the police enter the room, they are going to see you holding a gun.

When you got the gun, put it in your pocket if the guy is still a threat. If the guy is not a threat, put the gun down. When the police roll up, your only job is to look as harmless as possible and follow directions.

This one’s for young men.

Get in good shape. Get a couple of girls who are friends, and take them to a middle class neighborhood full of management folks. Dress like day laborer. Take your shirt off while walking down the street and flexing your muscles, and have the girls follow you like drooling, excited puppies. Then watch the fun, as the neighborhood begins to riot.

;-)
