Kevin Smith Tweets He Has Suffered “Massive Heart Attack”

Kevin Smith says he has suffered and survived a “massive heart attack,” tweeting a photo from his hospital bed just after midnight Pacific time on Monday. The Clerks and Chasing Amy filmmaker was shooting a new standup special, Kevin Smith Live!, at the Alex Theatre in Glendale on Sunday night. Two shows were scheduled, one at 6PM and one at 9PM. Smith wrote on Twitter that he cancelled the second performance and had he not, he “would’ve died tonight… but for now, I’m still above ground!”

KevinSmith ✔ @ThatKevinSmith After the first show this evening, I had a massive heart attack. The Doctor who saved my life told me I had 100% blockage of my LAD artery (aka “the Widow-Maker”). If I hadn’t canceled show 2 to go to the hospital, I would’ve died tonight. But for now, I’m still above ground! 3:21 AM - Feb 26, 2018

Smith currently hosts and produces AMC’s Comic Book Men, a reality series set at his comics shop Jay And Silent Bob’s Secret Stash in Red Bank, New Jersey. It’s been running for seven seasons and features Smith and his pals talking about comic books.

He recently finished directing an episode of The CW’s Flash and last year appeared as himself in James Franco’s The Disaster Artist. His last feature as director was 2016’s Yoga Hosiers.

My mom was only 51-total blockage as well. Doc told her she should be six feet under, miracle that she survived.

Crummy genetics.

I’m 44 and can’t help but count down as I approach 50. Despite all my efforts to change paths, I’m following in her footsteps. Problem is that because I’m not overweight no doc is really concerned. Just like it was with her.

Hope he makes a full recovery. Always seemed like a great guy.

He is one of the very few at this point who I genuinely want to see a Star Wars movie from. Kevin Smith had an idea just before Disney bought the franchise: he wants to make a Boba Fett origin movie. Where that kid from Episode II gets killed by some anonymous mystery man who goes on to collect the armor and the Slave I ship and be the bounty hunter seen in The Empire Strikes Back.

I had a full blockage of my right coronary artery. Twice. The second one was a blood clot in the stent form the first one.

Fun stuff.

I’m glad Kevin is still alive. I like him, very witty. Yes I know he’s a lib, but that’s okay.

Kevin smith is truly a nice guy unfortunately he is liberal but he is not a mean nasty liberal. the guys biggest problem is he knows that he has some talent in directing but he has no faith in his abilities and he is not ambitious. I would love to see Him given a small budget to do a star wars story. the place he excels in is the 3-4 million dollar range of movie making. He is good at staying with in a budget but he has never had anything but splinter group cult status for his movies. also warning he pays lip service to the social justice stuff to keep his wife happy who is probably the only reason he is political at all.

Age 64: Doc told me I had four coronary arteries blocked. 80% occluded. Plus a leaky atrial valve. Needed open heart surgery right away or they guaranteed a heart attack.

A week and a half later, I had the open heart quadruple bypass and they repaired the valve too.

Two days later lying in intensive care, I threw a pulmonary embolus and stopped breathing. My newly repaired heart arrested and quit beating.

They cut me open again and the surgeon hand-massaged my heart back to normal sinus rhythm after almost 8 minutes. I started to breathe again with an oxygen mask. I was alive, barely.

Instead of 5 days after surgery, I was in intensive care for 5 weeks after open heart surgery, two blood transfusions and an open chest wound.

I could barely breathe or walk for weeks and weeks after I returned home. But slowly I got stronger and eventually I recovered 100%.

Age 70: Two weeks ago, I turned 70 and count my blessings that my parents passed good genes on to me and that I have made it this far basically unscathed. Without substantial damage. I am active, workout daily and live and work on a cattle farm. I am mistaken for a man in his mid-50s all the time. I feel healthy.

I'm glad to hear this fella survived the big widow maker. He's young and will recover nicely.

My message to everyone reading this: "It ain't over 'til it's over." Healthy living everyone!

Shows what I know too... I thought they meant the guy who played Ares (and other roles) on the Xena and Hercules shows.

If your plaque has any calcification, please look into taking Vitamin K2-MK7 or Vitamin K2-MK4.

It can reverse that calcium buildup and put it into your bones.

That Kevin Smith died in 2002 in a fall on a movie set.

I was taking it for a few months, then ran out. No one carries it around here and I am not a fan of ordering things on line.

However, a coworker saw a picture of me from last year, before she joined our staff, and said something about how young I looked. It was less than a year ago! That made me decide to go back to ordering the skin care products I used to use and I got the K2 from the same site.

He was very overweight for a long time. I think there was an incident years ago, where Southwest Airlines wanted to have him pay for a 2nd seat. He lost weight very quickly after that. Not sure how he lost his weight. Extreme weight loss is very stressful on the heart.

Wow, only 47.

It is, but I was only 39 when I had my first heart attack at the same location - near the top of LAD.

I told the nurse I don't smoke, drink, or take drugs. She didn't believe me. She said, "You may as well tell us what you were taking because we've already drawn your blood and we'll find out". Answer came back: nothing.

What I took away from the comments at the link was very troubling.

Apparently it is now “gospel” (good to use that connotation) that offering prayers, such as for the lost kids at the Florida High School, is a bad thing if you aren’t going to try to tear down the Second Amendment of the Constitution to pay for failed liberal policy.

Leftists will deny your faith, or your right to hold same, if you aren’t toeing the totalitarian line. They will start a flame war on the thread where you announce your near death and admirers offer prayer on your behalf to see this sick twisted leftist logic through to the end.

Well, I’m 69 as of 1/25, and I’m doing great so far, but who knows! At one time or another, the end will come.

Perhaps my case will be the exception :-)
