Glad to see you back, and sorry you went through the illness, but also glad you found relief!
So Lasik surgery can cause CN?? Will have to research that!
It’s good to have a supply of thyroid meds when TSHTF, but don’t worry too much about running out since my doctor said it’s like turning a big ship around; thyroid meds take a while to make a difference (as well as not taking them would take a while to make a difference).

That makes sense, since every time they do an increase I don’t have a blood test until 3 months later.

If the problem is hypothyroidism, eating animal thyroids might work as a substitute. It would be tricky to get the dosage right, and even though you'd only need a tiny bit every day, getting a steady supply might be complicated.
Thyroid hormone survives cooking, so you could mix it in with some ground beef or a little sausage and cook as normal. If you have family, you'll probably want to cook it in a separate pan so the juices don't mix.
There was actually a medical case involving an epidemic of hypERthyroidism in a small town. It was eventually traced to ground beef from the local butcher. It seems the business had changed hands, and the new butcher wasn't quite as fanatical about removing glands from the neck meat before grinding it.
