7. Who funds the NRA? ...under federal law that can’t be used for campaign purposes.

Did the SCOTUS reverse this or not in recent years? Citizens versus something or another. I thought they allowed corporations to donate as a matter of free speech. Help me please! (I’m not a lawyer).

Best I could find:

While the NRA cannot directly give money to political candidates, its Pac can.
Federal law states that an organization such as the NRA cannot solicit money for itself and then deliver that money to its Pac – an action that obscures the beneficiary of a donation from the donor.

I am not sure the exact year or ruling and it is too late at night/early in the morning for me to spend an hour searching but there was some ruling disallowing the NRA from using member dues to lobby so they had to create the NRA-ILA (Institute for Legislative Action (I think)) and take separate donations specifically for political use.

I know the Virginia Citizens Defense League has the same setup and I think most of the same type of organizations do so to follow the law.
