an inferior legal practitioner, especially one who deals with petty cases or employs dubious practices.
Origin mid 16th century: from petty + obsolete fogger ‘underhanded dealer,’ probably from Fugger, the name of a family of merchants in Augsburg, Germany, in the 15th and 16th centuries.

Agree...Rooster Cogburn. Impossible to not like a guy with that name, especially when played by John Wayne. What a novel, moving, and intriguing movie. I think I need to rewatch it.

I love the way “pettifogger” just slowly rolls off the tongue. Very mellifluous (except maybe for the hard “g”).
The first definition of “Pettifogger” in the dictionary should be “1. Noun. Democrat.”
