t was a rough day for the US women's Olympic figure skating team when all three women botched their solo routines for the free skating event.
Mirai Nagasu made history earlier this week when she became the first American woman - and third overall - to successfully land a triple axel in the team event, but the 24-year-old Olympian struggled Friday at the Pyeongchang Games.
After taking the ice and flawlessly performing a few moves, everyone expected Nagasu to launch herself in the air for the triple axel but she instead turned into a single axel. She finished in tenth place.

Need more males on the team
CNN will report this as Trump’s fault, yet again. The figure skaters deliberately failed in a protest against a lack of gun control and as an excuse not to have to attend the White House reception by Trump.
Every area of our country suffered under obama, it seems.
Dont see how he could have ###ed up the woman’s skating team though. But who knows :)
MUCH more important is the talent in the military. We can survive less gold medals.
Can’t survive the rampant destruction of our armed services the past 8 years. (well, not the past one, and let’s hope Trump gets them up to snuff sooner than later. I do know final field tests have become MUCH more difficult recently under orders from up top)
Some one said the other day that they changed the scoring system to weigh more heavily on difficulty of spins rather than perfection in carrying them out.
So, for example, you might get more points for crappy execution of a triple than you would get for a flawless execution of a double.
So this encourages them to try things they can’t do as well, to increase their points. It’s all about the points.
Just about everyone landed on their bum at least once last night. It’s like dogs howling or babies crying; one does it and everybody else joins in.
That needs to change. Guys were scoring higher falling on a triple than other who executed a double.
Impossible to believe! Who wouldn't be riveted by this sh!t!?"
You couldn’t pay me to watch the olympics.
Okay, you could pay me..
Lowest viewership? Hahaha.
“At least Adam Rippon was fabulous.”
Adam’s sequins were second to none.
NBC, we don’t care about the sob stories connected to these athletes. We want to see WINNING. There were few winners in this dreary Olympics, with the exception of our snowboarders and the women’s hockey team.
How could Rippon claim to be the first Openly Gay skater with Johnny Weir dressed like a stripper on a birthday cake?....
The fact is the Russian figure skating girls are just better than everyone else this year. In four years it will be someone else.
I think the ratings slip is just the continued decline of network TV in general. Many people continue to cut the cable and watch Netflix, HULU, etc.
At least we get to see Johnny weirdo and his fruitcake hairstyle.
At least we get to see Johnny weirdo and his fruitcake hairstyle.
If SHE’s launching the curling stone, consider me riveted!
;^)
I remember when Weir went to the Olympics in Turin there were stories he walked around the area with two hot Russians in his arms.
I think it would be better to have an Olympic event called Hot European Chicks instead of whatever this thing they do on ice looking all series like it means something is.
WRONG!
They are all winners because diversity!
The sport was effected dramatically IMHO post the 2008 CMO real-estate collapse/stock market crash. Many parents careers were impacted, as well as grandparents 401k’s etc as sometimes they paid for it as well. Up to a 50% drop in participation, I had heard, and I can’t 2nd source that, as I take it for what is worth. Allowing younger skaters to add more sophisticated jumps traditionally not found at that given level took the wind out of younger skaters as the may have not been competitive with a jumping shrimp phenom that far outpaced their peers. That was a USFSA decision that I thought was not the greatest...
