I think Satanism is absurd, but that’s me.

I think you are correct in terms of how many of us see Satanism.

Let me suggest a different way of looking at this matter.

Those who adhere to Judea/Christian culture--Westerners--believe that there is an objective right and wrong...like the Ten Commandments.

Progressives do not believe there is a right and a wrong. They believe, in effect, that reality is what you want it to be.

For example, if a person believes that evil doesn't exist (and that's what progressives and Liberals believe), life gets a lot easier.

If a person thinks being a homosexual is OK because that's how they are wired, then it is incumbent on Progressives and Liberals to accept that person for who he/she is. Same for transsexuals.

That's where the slippery slope begins.

If homosexuals are OK and transsexuals are OK (i.e. not sin), then what about pederasts or those who practice bestiality.

Anyway, you see where this is heading.

Liberals, progressives, post-modernist, communists believe that Judeo/Christian--Western--culture is intolerant and unaccepting and even hateful because it is intolerant toward their lifestyles. And from their point of view, they are correct...sort of.

There is a deity of progressivism (though many progressives may not know this).

Saul Alinsky knew this. That is why he dedicated "Rules for Radicals" to this deity.

Here's the dedication in Rules for Radicals...

"Lest we forget at least an over-the-shoulder acknowledgment to the very first radical: from all our legends, mythology, and history (and who is to know where mythology leaves off and history begins — or which is which), the first radical known to man who rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively that he at least won his own kingdom — Lucifer."

Those who are aware of this deity of progressivism do not think he is evil. They recognize him as the deity who represents what they believe. They believe he is a guardian spirit, a god of enlightenment...the true God.

As the famous occultist Aleister Crowley said of the guiding principal of this kind of life: "Do as thou wilt."

Or in modern day terms, "if it feels good, do it."

It might be better to call Satanism, Luciferianism. It doesn't sound so bad.

It is not, at its lowest levels, occult in appearance. But at the top, it is.

Is there really such a deity?

Maybe yes, maybe no.

But many folks believe there is and that there are advantages that come with believing.

As an aside, consider that churches which are full on Sunday may contain only a few true believers. Same for the Church of Lucifer.

There are millions who have adopted the progressive culture, and many fewer who actually might call themselves Luciferians...and even fewer still who are true believers.

But they (the true believers/practicing occultist) do exist.

It is this entire culture (not just the true believers) that I think Q is referring to as Satanism.

Now all this having been said, let me add that for those of us who are true believers of the Christian faith, we also believe that there is really is a deity of all those tolerant progressives. And we believe he is indeed quite evil.

We believe this because we believe we have seen him at the periphery of spiritual experience. He is the one trying to destroy us in our battle to draw closer to the God we believe is calling us to Himself.

Whew. Finally at the end of this long-winded explanation.

Hope I haven't made matters even worse.:-)

Well said. May I add that Satan’s greatest tactic is to convince so many people he doesn’t exist.

It does not matter, mardie, whether or not YOU personally believe in God or Satan or not. It matters that THEY believe in Satan and/of act on it as if they do.

The basis of their behavior is that they do believe that Satan exists and we have to deal with the results of that behavior.

An analogy is that a murderer is out in the wild killing small children because he THINKS that a voice in his head who he things is God is telling him to do it. He leaves letters at the scenes of his crimes telling us that's why he's doing it. We think he's obviously insane. We believe there is no voice in his head that is coming from anywhere else but his mental illness. . . but we MUST deal with the crimes and find him and stop him. It doesn't matter the beliefs that you or any other police officer hold about his voice he thinks he hears. You must act as if he is responding to a voice he believes is real.

What an excellent post.

Though some of us have seen satan alarmingly up close and more than sufficiently personal.
