Actually you need a lawyer if you win the lottery. And not just any lawyer. You need one that specializes in handling lottery winning accounts. An experienced lawyer in that area has already set up the foundations, trusts, tax plans, and other accounts. You need someone who has done it before. Why pay someone to learn and likely screw it up.

Just heard/read this UPDATE March 13, 2018:
Not surprised. I recall in the early years of the Texas Lotto, a state winner wanted to remain anonymous, took it to court, and won.
