In response to a request by Lone Palm, to whom I always listen.
Groans of wounded peasants dying,
Wails of wives and children flying,
For the distant succour crying,
Calls you, Harlech men.
Shall the voice of wailing,
Now be unavailing,
You to rouse who never yet
In battle's hour were failing,
This our answer - crowds down pouring,
Swift as winter torrents roaring,
Not in vain the voice imploring,
Calls on Harlech men
Loud the martial pipes are sounding
Every manly heart is pounding
As our trusted chief surrounding,
March we Harlech men.
Short the sleep the foe is taking,
Ere the morrows' morn is breaking,
They shall have a rude awakening,
Roused by Harlech men.
Mothers cease your weeping,
Calm may be your sleeping,
You and yours in safety now
The Harlech men are keeping,
Ere the sun is high in heaven
They you fear by panic riven
Shall like frightened sheep be driven,
Far by Harlech men.

That’s where Lone Palm fell in love with the music. I never saw the movie and hadn’t heard it before he linked it to me. He has very good taste.
Wow! What an anthem!
It is! You see why I agreed immediately. I LOVE the way I learn so much on FR.
Well, that was your first mistake. ;-)
Thank you again. Great Job. Cymru am byth

Welshmen will not yield!
That’s the version I’m making next. What Lone Palm REALLY wanted was that version of the song to Cadfael. This was easier.
“Welshmen will not yield!”
They sure didn’t at Rorke’s drift!
A lovely heroic song!
That song always reminds me of Rick Rescorla. If you don’t know the name, you should. He saved 2700 people on 9-11. By many accounts of that day he was singing that song as he headed back up the stairs.

I just love that song.
beautiful!

I do remember something about him. I tried to find the piece of video in my news pieces, but couldn’t. I wouldn’t have understood the meaning of that song then. Now, it’s sort of amazing. Thanks for the connection.
A most sincere Thank You.
He was also in the terrible battle for the Ia Drang Valley depicted in the movie “They Were Soldiers”. Won many medals for his Vietnam service. Very heroic man, and worth listening to interviews with. Glad you enjoyed the connection.
I hope our people don’t ever forget about people like him. Please pass that knowledge on to a younger person you know.
