What if the whole anti-fake news campaign was an effort on somebody's part to keep us fromm seeing or believing certain websites of stories by controversializing them or labeling them as fake news.
Nice easy listening 9:41 speech bt Sharyl Attkisson on her study of the orgination of the "Fake News" term

I listen to radio in the afternoon: townhall and foxnews have tons of fake news skits. ALL radio news should be preceded with a “paid sponsor” disclaimer.

I'd think that the more important question is:
How Fake Is "Real" News?
To: saywhatagain
I used to love to read the newspaper as a kid, this went on until the '80s with me thinking it was all true. They wouldn't lie, after all. I also caught a 24 hour news radio station at night from LA.
Liberal news media was ignoring Rush Limbaugh as a strategy until he made the bold statement that there was not three million homeless in America - the newspapers were lying.
Well, now was their chance! They piled on to Rush with derision and scorn. But the 1990 Census was coming. And it proved there were probably a few hundred thousand. Then it came out that a left wing activist made up the three million number - he admitted it. The newspapers had been lying because they hated Ronald Reagan.
Wow, talk about taking the red pill! I knew, and knowing made it easier to spot the lies.

ABC is owned by Disney.
Other studios own other news networks.
They promote their products (movies, tv shows, books, and music) without disclosing their financial interest in pimping these wares.
Many “medical breakthrough” news items you see on local news are canned productions provided by some drug company as “news”. They are merely press releases. You can see the local talking head reading the same script used in each city.
Even in newspapers, if you don’t buy an ad, you won’t get your event(s) covered. Even if you DO buy an ad, you may not get coverage (before or after). That’s their excuse when they say you AREN’T buying news stories.

in 2004, CBS News and AP broke a fake news story (October Surprise) about (forged) National Guard memos that “proved” GW Bush was AWOL. In 2000, the popular vote was lost to Al Gore because of an election eve release of his decades old DWI arrest. He lost the popular vote by 0.51% (half of one percentage point). Dan Rather wanted to sit on the memos for maximum effectiveness but AP was going to run them in print so he took to the airwaves.
No one ever went to prison for trying to “influence” the 2004 election with fake news. Time-Lies-Warner-HBO even produced a revisionist history promoting the idea of “fake but accurate” rather than pointing out the BullStalin propaganda of the MSM.

hmmm . . . nobody here picked up on Sharyl describing who started the "fake news" mantra and why?
Answer . . . Google CEO Eric Schmidt, for the purpose of discrediting conservative news sites.
