The Snowflakes don’t want a military parade
2/14/2018 | Me

A lot of people have misgivings about a military parade. They’re idiots. Why shouldn’t our military show its pride? Why shouldn’t America exhibit its strength and skill? Some Americans are acting like our citizen army is going to goose step down Main Street. They’re idiots.

What’s the message here? We’re behind you 100% until you march down the street, then you’re unworthy of our attention. I think once people see our great military en force, they’ll change their mind.

“Bring on the parade!“

I wonder how active duty personnel feel about this? As a Vietnam Vet I remember how I felt about it.....

Only bad part of that photo is that the troops aren't under arms.

Wonder why they disarmed those soldiers?

As a vet, I’m kind of mixed on this. I really did not like marching in those sort of shows. There should only be a parade to mark something significant like withdrawal from Afghanistan.

I’ll tell you how we felt. Parades suck. No thanks. I just retired from 24 years in the army. Every time I had to be part of one of these dog and pony shows it was a waste of time. They usually occur on a weekend or holiday and that’s time better spent with your family. I would estimate that at least 80% of my soldiers felt this way.

I commanded many units and always tried to keep things low key and quick. I gave soldiers the option of keeping promotion ceremonies or awards ceremonies small and private. I even disliked change of command ceremonies but realized they were necessary and traditional. We used to time the speeches. Anyone who talked more than one minute took some shit about it...

Maybe I’m hopelessly “tainted” by having been in the military for nearly half my life, but I’m not seeing a downside to showing our military off to the public once in a while. We did this when the troops returned from Desert Storm, so why not honor them for crushing ISIS and safeguarding the nation?

These f***ing, easily triggered, anti-military snowflakes aren’t being forced to watch it, so they have no case.

BTW, my previous comment does NOT apply to veterans who have misgivings about parades... rather it’s directed at those leftards who are reflexively opposed to all things military.

We already have 2 very fine National parades for Veterans Day and Memorial Day - as well as lots of regional parades on Armed Forces day.

The biggest strike against this idea is its inspiration...A French parade?

Reconsider, Mr. President.

Lol i used to hate that kind of horse feathers! But soldiers love nothing more than marching around in the sun practicing drill and being inspected! Only O5 and up love an f-ing parade. Unless you include officialdom. They think the parade is for them.

I suspect Trump sees this as a projection of force exercise. The rest of them? Just shiny toys.

I don’t care so much either way on a military parade. I do care about driving socialists and foreign invaders insane, frothing at the mouth.

I have mixed opinion on this.

On the one hand, I think it’s a good thing that the public be exposed to our men and women in uniform. I also think it would be good to have as much hardware on display as practical - we paid for it and most of us never get to see where our hard earned money went.

OTOH, if it’s on a holiday, then that seems like the worst time to pull military members away from their families. I also suspect doing a parade is kind of a PITA for most of the rank and file, except maybe for the bands who get to show off on a grand scale for once.

I’m sure it wouldn’t be cheap either unless they could put it on with just those already stationed in the DC area.

Maybe it could be just a part of a larger operation. Like set up some national or regional training exercise that resulted in all the troops being in DC, then once they’re there, have the parade (and maybe a big Thank You party for the troops that night) before continuing the exercise as a mock draw down.

As a Viet Vet, I tend to stray from this sort of thing for personal reasons.

But for the sake of the nation, I think it is not a good idea simply because the left will organize huge demonstrations that have the potential to really get ugly. Imagine the MSM feeding frenzy if some DNC hired thugs physically engage the soldiers on parade? It would be a lose/lose situation where if they fall back they are chickens, if they fight back they are the evil the left projects them to be.

This brings to mind something unrelated to this thread, but I vividly recall being in the NCO club when the news flash came over the TV saying some students were shot at Kent State. Everyone in the bar stood up and cheered for the NG!

Remember how whenever Obama was near the troops, they either were disarmed or had the bolts removed from their weapons?

I sure do!

Sorry you had such a shitty experience! Despite being spat on in the late 60s and early 70s, mine was a lot better, but then, I wasn’t a chopper pilot, just an artilleryman.

It is funny, but every parade or ceremony filled me with pride, because I believed I was carrying on a proud tradition. My late maternal Grandfather was in a formal ceremony in France, where his rifle, out of the entire company, was inspected by General Pershing.

Different strokes for different folks. It sounds like you spent your career, either sitting on your ass with one hand between your legs, or trashing traditions of the service to be a “good guy”. But, that is my judgmental take on it. Full disclosure...I was nearly killed in June of 1980 due to the poor judgement of a chopper pilot in an OH-58.

Glad your gone....your a dick....and your troops knew you were a dick.

Thanks for ‘sacrificing yourself’ for 24 years...our nation and the Men who DIED for it....just shake their head in a sad confusion on why men like you even get into our once proud band of brothers.

My god man....it’s a PARADE....a fripin PARADE.... to HONOR the men and women who give (and will give) their lives for us and to set a HIGH BAR for the young men and women who want to MEET THAT BAR...by example!!

What’s wrong with you?

I can only think that sometimes you live so close to the forest....you no longer see the trees. I hope it the case for your idiocy.

Good day sir.

I thought this parade was going to be on veterans day. If so, this would mark the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI, a pretty significant event that deserves to be commemorated. I like the idea of a parade. As a retired Marine I had the opportunity to march in many parades, some I liked, some I didn't.

I think my favorite one was when we pulled into port in Hokaido Japan and we were the first American military there for a long time, since probably WWII. They lined us up and had an impromptu parade as we marched to our base camp. The streets were lined with cheering Japanese waving Japanese and American flags. It was an awesome site.

Attached is a picture of 4th Marines in Shanghai marching down (I'm guessing) Bubbling Well Road which is a weekly parade they conducted when they weren't protecting the American sector against the Japanese. They say that was one of the best duties ever in the Marine Corps. What I would give to have been a China Marine marching in those weekly parades.
