Mardi Gras Day Bourbon Street antics warming up. They've been drinking since daylight. After dark it will turn into 'freaks and hairies dykes and fairies'.
It’s a shame Alvin Lee died due to complications from stomach surgery. He was a great guitar player.
Though I am in middle age, I’ve always thought it might be kinda fun to see New Orleans during Mardi Gras.
But a few stories I have heard about it were not great. They weren’t horrible - but it was kinda like “Yeah, there was a lot of drinking...yeah, there were women lifting their shirts to get beads...yeah, there were a lot of oddballs milling around...yeah, the place kinda smelled like barf, pee and stale beer”.
I’d like to see New Orleans more during the off season where you can do some serious eating. I’ve heard good things about the restaurants.
I think I just saw a guy standing on the sidewalk doing a bong hit.
Every time I have driven through NO it was raining. And not just a spring shower, it was torrential. I believe God was attempting to wash it into the Gulf of Mexico.
I’ve been there twice. The smell of barf and pee is always there.
Web cam showing a lot of cultural appropriation going on...
I think was just one of those long fluted plastic glasses you see drinks served in. Was there smoke?
I’ve been there twice. The smell of barf and pee is always there. But still had a great time.
He did pretty good during Katrina, but like mold, it comes back.
Corner of St.Peters and Bourbon St. for anyone who wants to google street scene it.
I go to New Orleans for the music. I stay away from Bourbon St and stay on Frenchman St.
Did the downtown Bourbon st gras in the 80s and 90s. Staying in Metairie now. Safer, more sane and less crowded.Lucked out with weather. Friends will get Zulu coconuts for me. i’m comfy with King Cake vodka, food and a bathroom.
The two most worthwhile things to do in NOLA are the WWII Museum and the Audobon Aquarium.
We were there in May. Mardi Gras trash still there. Still stank.
Doing mardi gras in full costume is a once in a life time event.
I spent months on my costume.
One of the most memorable events was being mobbed by throngs of young Japanese student tourists.
By evening people were just grabbing stuff from my costume as souvenirs. It was all in fun, no violence.
Best places “hang out” is Magazine street and faubourg.
Lot of workers in the FQ live and party in faubourg marigny which is on the other side of esplanade ave. The opposite side of the FQ from Canal St.
BTW - It’s not unusual for over a million people to be in the FQ on the last day of mardi gras.
(Japanese LEO types train for crowd control in NOLA during carnival - seriously)
So true! Or more appropriately, like an STD...
The first Mardi Gras was held in Mobile, Alabama.
More freaks than the average Walmart
