A big cat poacher has been killed and eaten by the pride of lions he was hunting at a private game reserve in South Africa.

The hunter was heard screaming for help as he was attacked at the Ingwelala Private Nature Reserve in Hoedspruit outside Phalaborwa.

But the lions quickly killed their victim and devoured most of his body before being chased off, leaving his head untouched.

If he was an authorized hunter he would have been hunting in the day and he would have been identified. Getting a lion permit is not like getting your deer tag. You get a permit for a certain lion in a certain area.

And it was on a privately owned nature preserve, not a place that allows hunting or even firearms from what I can tell.

Probably.

"Poacher" and "hunter" are not synonymous and shouldn't be used interchangeably in this story. Dude was a poacher.
