Indians massacre and slaughter the Queen’s English. Mostly due to a revolting accent and pronunciation.

Many Englishmen would say the same about Americans - who cares? One the strengths which give the English language its power and make it so widespread is its flexibility and openness to change. If it were still the Queen's English, no one would be speaking it except the Queen and few other inbred members of the nobility.

I don’t agree, but who cares. It has long been noted that Indians speaking English sound a lot like Welsh speaking English. To my ears they both have a certain musicality.

Interesting considering the modern school system and the English language was brought to them in the 1830s.

The Indians that I know do not have revolting accents nor pronunciation. I am actually highly impressed with their linguistic skills. English and Hindi are their main languages, yet all of them speak multiple languages, some upwards of 5. Maybe I’m biased because I formed personal relationships and consider them friends.

Now, the more uneducated do butcher English. While I was in Mumbai, my driver understood my American English with my Texas drawl. It took much more for me to understand his heavily accented English.

As an English, english speaker, I would like to have your assurance that ‘Americans’ don’t butcher the English language on a daily basis!

Have you heard what's going on in the US recently? Especially among kids?

How perfect is your English that you get to throw stones, anyway?

I can help!

The ambitious Indian brethren should get themselves copies of that 19th century bilingual immigrants' guidebook, "English As She Is Spoke," by Pedro Carolino.

See helpful quotes (tagline)
