I agree entirely with ‘opening the books’. At a time during which the government is spying on American citizens, why should the government have the ability to hide what it does?

Around six years ago, I remember someone writing up a piece on a town in California with around 40,000 in population. They had a full-time fire department. They had around a hundred folks hired for the department. While the rookies were in the $40k range...about three-quarters of the whole fire department was making more than $75,000 a year, with several of the ranking guys up near $120k each. That doesn’t include the health insurance, retirement coverage, etc. At the rate things were going....I would imagine that the bulk of the department today (six years later) probably all make $100k minimum.

The whole thing is built like a pyramid scheme and it’s remarkable that they’ve made it this far.

This is actually the best argument for NOT having the government do charity work.

Could you imagine yourself donating to a charity that has more than 80% administrative overhead? Most folks look for the opposite, where more than 80% makes it to the needy.

Well, “donating” to govt through taxes to do charity work (social programs) you are just supporting a “charity” with incredibly high overhead.

This doesn’t even include all the fraudulent activity that having such a high bankroll involves - want to pay back a buddy who donated big to your campaign? Easy, have your buddy open a “consulting firm” and hire them to do a “study” through the appropriate agency.

The less govt has, the less it can abuse.

When you have govt doing charity work, you’re mostly paying for the govt employees and their lavish benefits.

Did you notice how many of the BIG GRANT Spending projects were clustered within 150 miles of Washington DC?

It’s corrupt liberals giving money to their fellow corrupt liberals.
