I'm scared to post this for fear of being yelled at, banned, hurting Jim's feelings...I truly value, love, enjoy everyone here, even those I've argued with...we are family. That said, families ask tough questions...
Over the past year, more recently, fewer posts are made getting the scoop, informing, starting great discussions. I've always considered myself a bit player here, and such a Friday cat and scared of technology, I lurked for 5 yrs before making a user ID, so my dob on Freep really isn't accurate...been here a while.
So I ask who are we? Our purpose is?
Jim is a patriot, created a community and tool to protect and inform the republic...I have noticed a shift...if I post something, lately I am shocked no one else did before me...am I alone in noticing this?
Perhaps it is a sign of our tech and political times...GP, Last Refuge and Sundance, the Chan's 4 and 8, Q and qcodefag, all the Twitter analyses by those interpreting Q...Breitbart...etc.
I go to these sites, get the scoop, go to Freep, and am surprised no one usually is discussing what I just read...no, this isn't 100% of the time, but a lot. What changed? I don't think we are disinterested, but maybe takes too much h effort to post and we have even shorter attention spans or just want to get informed and move on? Am I guilty of laziness?
Sunday, the thread discusses some of this from the week gone by, but I'm hoping we aren't reducing ourselves to a weekly thread and that's it...

You just said many things I completely agree with. And I agree with the OP as I’ve often popped over here to see breaking news is nowhere to be found.
In addition I want to point out what is probably going to drive me away now is men who assume I’m a man by my handle (I’m a woman) and I’ve experienced the most rude, crass, vile and downright vulgar replies. The anger is so unbecoming and the classlessness is astounding. It used to be in the old days if anyone used that language here especially to a lady fellow FReepers would admonish them. Not anymore. It just piles on.
I find it disheartening because I well remember the days of the most interesting and intelligent and witty posters. It’s just not the same.

My sources have changed over time. I used to check Drudge 3-7 times a day- now 2 or 3 months pass without going there at all.
I used to have Fox on in the background all day when I was at home- then I unplugged from tv period. If it’s important, I’ll plug in to streaming online.
I’m not registered on Facebook or Twitter, but I use Twitter as a major source of info- sort of the way I used Drudge. There are a couple dozen timelines I check regularly - people I know will have information I’m looking for.
It’s damned near impossible to work fulltime and stay as informed as I want. I scan Q a bit, but am to date unable to get swept up by it. But that’s me- others will disagree.
FR has been a constant though- started reading in 02, signed on in 04 and no matter the feuds, system outages, the zots or purges, I come here because...it’s FR. If there’s a fire, an earthquake, a mass shooting, hurricane or tornado or terrorist attack, somewhere nearby , there’s a freeper. Always. We get firsthand accounts of events as they happen. Then another freeper has an uncle or coworker or daughter that’s there too and we get more info. This has always been one of the remarkable things about us, we’re everywhere:) I’ve learned from this the difference between what’s happening and what the media wants us to think is happening...
Where else can you read about the Deep State, Deep Space, the flu outbreak, how God works in science and in our life and whether the NFL is truly dying....

Rather I grew up in the old Virginia where doors were never locked, manners were of utmost importance and everyone worked.
Extremely few people worked on Sunday, businesses were closed half days Wednesday and Saturday, and drinking was frowned upon.
The Virginia where I was related, by blood or marriage, to half the people in the county. The Virginia where “setting out” was still practiced instead of dating.
Virginians Robert E Lee, “Stonewall” Jackson and JEB Stuart were held in as high regard as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry.
Yes, there was Jim Crow and segregation so there was bad with the good.
All in all it was a better time and place.

Back then some folks here leaked items in a safer to leak time... early whitewater and just before...
It was a place scanned by news sources for the scoop. and by government agencies for leakers...
there were private owners of some backbone components to what is now the WWW. some had and provided anonymous proxies that went through alternate means of data provision and not as much long term logging of users, searches and archiving.
Pre carnivore. prism. and the snowden types running the show.
NOW we are monitored here constantly.
All providers, are supposed to maintain logs of query traffic and mapping of data routes. And the backbone has more taps than users.

Back then this site was a dark blue screen on my terminal with no pictures or attachments... and navigation was by hand typed selection of links... old lynx browser...

I tried posting newsworthy items, but I’m getting tired of being slammed. Part of the problem is there is so much “news” that doesn’t cite sources. Part of it is because people don’t want to read what they don’t want to hear. It intrudes on whatever reality that have created for themselves and they tend, all too often, to get hostile.
Honestly, I’m getting tired of it...not worth the aggravation.

You are right, I get tired of it. There are about 20 folks who if banned, the discussions would be great...I may even post more Q stuff...there are a few trolls there, but most are trying to translate the drops...It’s like there are some here to sit back, type some flame stuff, hit enter and entertain themselves. It gets old and it does discourage me from posting, just saying.

I imagine it was a sleepy little town back then.
Unless you’ve been back in the last 20 years you wouldn’t believe how built up the area is.
Inside the beltway too.
Like Tysons Corner used to be a big dairy farm and look at it now.
It was very quiet and safe. A nice place to live, with lots of children.
I used to do some deliveries in the area about 20 years ago. Heavy traffic and parking problems.
Now you run out of one town into another and never realise it unless you see the little town marker sign by the road.
That whole northern area is infested with government workers who turned the state blue.
