WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. — Have you heard loud booms in Wheat Ridge lately? That’s the question police are asking residents following several reports of loud booms or explosions across a large area of the Jefferson County city.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, Wheat Ridge Police said they have taken multiple calls and noticed several posts on social media regarding the mystery noise over the past month.

The noise is described as a single loud boom, occurring more frequently on weekends, although police say some have happened on other days of the week, between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. Some callers said they saw a flash of light.

More likely from supersonic airplanes.

The Airforce is practicing something.

A sonic boom from a very high flying jet

Lewis and Clarke mentioned they heard “loud booms like 12# cannons” a couple of times in their journals.
IMHO I believe it to be the sound waves from very shallow stress relieving forces reaching the surface. I believe NE Wisconsin experienced similar sounds a couple of years ago.

Through 2017 there were at least 64 locations worldwide that experienced unusual booms. The majority in the US happened East of the Mississippi. Each assigned it own explanation by local “experts”. Icequakes, aliens, meteors, DUMBs, fighter jets, CERN, underground gas explosions, continental shelf shift, and Gabriels Horns, are just some of the explanations offered.

Scramjets and other sources of sonic booms would be heard over a wider area, not just one town.
