Back when Sam Walton was still alive, WalMart had a similar return policy.
I waited in line at the customer service desk at our Walmart behind a guy who brought in a pair of sneakers that looked like they came out of a dumpster, torn, ragged, stained and absolutely ruined. I would have been embarrassed to hold them much less have the guts to return them for a REFUND............WHICH THEY GAVE HIM!............
There was a legendary story about a guy who returned a thermos to Walmart in the 1990’s. They gave him a refund, no questions asked.
Their D&D system tried to send it back to Thermos Corp. for credit. Thermos Corp informed them that they had not manufactured that model thermos since 1953.
Back in the day I used to buy Craftsman tools exclusively because of their lifetime replacement policy.

I worked for a company that had a policy like that and we sold marine supplies. A live aboard ordered a tv antenna for his sailboat ( very expensive back then). After he received it he put it on his boat and sent the old one back in the packaging and demanded a refund because he claimed we sent him the old beat up one. We know what he did because of the serial numbers that didnt match. However because of our return policy we had to eat it.
I remember people who would infest garage sales buying broken items purchased at Walmart. They would buy it for a few cents, then return it to the store for a full refund.
