Letting your kids, especially YOUNG children, get an endorphine rush from playing first person shooters is beyond stupid...

Back during WWI the Army discovered that troops who were great marksman would hesitate pulling the trigger when faced with a real human target.... They found if they changed the shape of the targets troops practiced on to being human shaped instead of simply concentric circles, that the hesitation to fire in real combat lessened.

This study is well documented... feel free to look it up.

Now, imagine what you are doing having a 10 year old conditioned to pull a trigger at an ever more realistic target and getting rewarded for doing so???

IDIOTIC that people let their young children play these games.

As I stated, I don’t really get into video games, or even much TV anymore. I didn’t state, but I will now, I don’t think video games are a healthy thing for any kids, and mine growing up did not have Nintendo, Playstation, or any of those. They simply were not allowed in the house. I didn’t mind if they played a little when visiting with friends on theirs, but at home, we socialized with other indoor or outdoor games and activities.

I have also been shooting over 50 years, and while I think its great to introduce kids at early age to safe gun handling, I don’t think more defensive shooting training (including using human targets) is appropriate until they are young adults. They must at least be mature enough to understand the consequences of taking a human life, and many kids as well as many adults are not capable of such.

SO I don’t think we are in violent disagreement.

You have that right!

As a 56 year old man, I hesitantly admit that I play Call of Duty. I can’t tell you how many child voices I hear while playing which is why I mute everything out most of the time. Today’s parents are woefully ignorant or too self absorbed in themselves.

You shoot somebody and they respawn. Doesn’t happen that way in the real world... Kid’s playing these games get a warped view on what really is the reality of being shot or shooting somebody else.

I got my first real gun at age 9, a J.C. Higgins single shot .410. Killed some squirrels with it and shot dove with it until I was old enough for a 12 gauge. All the homes in the neighborhood had guns, and I mean multiple guns in each house. All the kids understood they weren’t toys and we never played with them. In contrast to the liberal narrative of death and destruction, nobody got shot and we didn’t grow up to be mass murderers.

LOL, I went for about a year playing America’s Army...it was the only FPS game I ever played, if Warbirds doesn’t count!

It was fun for a while, but I don’t have the time or inclination to do it now, though I do miss the flight simulator based games.

When I played Warbirds, as a joke (with people we knew of course) you would park yourself in a B25 with a 75 mm cannon in the nose right behind the spawn area, and as soon as the person appeared, you would let them have it.

I do miss the flight sim stuff...always wanted to fly.

The idea of using a weapon irresponsibly as a youth never entered my mind because my dad lived on this planet. I learned on the same .410 that he learned with at age 10 for both of us. When he was 10 in 1927 his mom thought a bicycle was too dangerous.

Some kids today that misuse and make mayhem have dads that live on this planet, too. How is this possible?

Torrei showed Hendrix all the safety precautions, including proper eye, ear protection and safe loading techniques. ... I want to teach him weapon protection and safety at a young age. It was fun and a learning experience.”

There is no better way to reduce violence and accidents committed with firearms than this kind of hands on experience at an early age. It simultaneously instills respect for their lethal power and lessens irrational fears of them through an objective understanding of their operation.

It is far and away best to learn this from a parent who cares about you and takes firearms seriously. Those early lessons stick.
