I’m surprised there isn’t a HAM group in FR. I’m AF7RU. I run a bunch of BSA units, and we do classes that get kids past their Tech license. If they pass, they get a free radio. We can program them so they are on the same band plan.
They take them to summer camp and use them like you would cell phones, kibitzing back and forth over simplex.
Very fun to watch.

Glad you’re active with kids, teaching them. It seemed like a lost art. But with prepper interest, ham radio is important for disasters and off-the-grid.

Joined Cloud Peak Radio Club and Big Horn Basin on the other side of the Big Horn Mountains.
I’m an XYL, and writing a book now about female hams - “I did that to my wife, too.”
I’m not a HAM, but I had to stick 16 GPM in my Navy “A” School to advance. I actually did it the faster of my entire class, and received the Samuel F. B. Morse Award.
As that was over 20 years ago (24, in fact), I have to say my sticking skills have deteriorated almost as much as my body and mind! Heh heh
