Westerners have known for quite a long time that you don’t want to be taken captive by Islamics.

EXACTLY, was thinking the same. Up there with Gary Gilmore, the murderer in Utah decades ago who demanded to be shot by a firing squad, so that he could ‘die like a man’, to use his words.
So the lovely terrorists can play with his body (or what’s left of it), but they will NOT be able to torture him. A hero to me!
Patriotism for his country to the very end. How many of us would have the balls to do that in the situation? It was just him and he wasn’t saving his comrades.
A horrible way to go, but I bet it was very quick and painless. To be captured could mean being burned alive or all sorts of other peaceful means our dearest islamo-terrorists have to dispose of anyone not taking to their religion.

In WWI, pilots began carrying revolvers with them. Their legs straddled the gas tanks on their biplanes. A round entering the fuel tank gave the pilot two choices. Die by burning to death or use the revolver.
If were to fall into into enemy hands, his comrades would take great risks to rescue him, just as our soldiers took great risks to recover Bowe Bergdahl.
He saved his comrades. Can’t do much more than that.
