Yeah, ordinary Russians are by-and large good people, I suspect. They deserve better than that bum Putin.
As Russians, maybe they think the cause of a Mediterranean port is worth rolling over some Muslims. It’s not as if Muzzies haven’t killed each other over Empire before.
The Boston terrorists were Chechens and they are the worst of the worst. The latest attackers are Uzbek & that bothers me since the Uzbeks I worked with were OK folks whose women dressed as they pleased & they all seemed to like Americans.
There were suicide bomber attacks in Tashkent in that spring of 2004 & the locals asked us not to judge them because of the extremists.
Uzbeks, like Persians, celebrate their pre-Islamic history.
Putin's headed that off at the pass by making common cause with Turkey. He's done a decent job keeping down Russian casualties, which also buys him time to figure out an exit strategy. Thanks GoldenState_Rose.

I'm actually temporarily living in Russia at the moment. Russians generally separate post-Soviet history into two parts: Pre-Putin, and Post-Putin. Pre-Putin was a scary time that no one wants to go back to. Post-Putin has seen quality of life and economic opportunity grow by leaps and bounds. No one is in a hurry to see Putin go.
This is a joke, right? Most of those people are secularized and have zero interest in any sort of jihadism. On the other hand, those that DO are dealt with very swiftly and firmly.
Muslims seethe - it’s what they do.....
Their history goes clear back to the 1600’s......most of the bad ones that create problems are out of the Caucuses for the most part.
