The pole have flipped several times recently. For a while, it was flipping back and forth day by day.
Yes, this will happen but catastrophe it will not be. Gradually, over time. Maybe our great, great grandkids will know that magentic needles point south. Or north. Who knows what will happen to magnetized materials when that happens either.
